“Does anyone have any more pics of the lovely Lizzie?”

Here’s one of my meagre offerings…

Beautiful pics Stevie, thanks for those. Was there with a basic compact digi cam,so I might post one or two later if I find anything decent.
My first time at Shuttleworth and I have to say I was mightily impressed by it all.The Sopwith Tripe,SE5 and SA Bulldog were all superb,as was Trevor Roach’s Spit display-breath-taking!Nice to see the Edwardians trundling aloft too.All in all a beatiful day of beautiful aeroplanes in a wonderful setting.I’m hooked! 🙂

I apologise for any offence caused by my ‘enthusiastic amateur’ phrase, but my point was that it is unlikely that any of us here are professionally involved in the investigation of this accident or the operation of the aircraft involved.I still feel very strongly that no matter how much experience we have of whatever form of aviation, there shouldn’t be suggestions made about what went wrong, even if it happenned to be correct. It simply isn’t our place to say and this forum is not the right place to say it.

I’m told that it can take quite a while for an article to be published in a magazine like Flypast. The features are often planned months in advance,so if snapper mailed his article in the last month or two it could be the autumn before we see it in print. Give it some time and see what happens.
    As for thism onth’s issue,I can’t comment as I haven’t read it yet.Watch this space…

The Dak will be ZA947,the BBMF’s example. Can’t tell you more than that I’m afraid.

Personally I think the subject is best left alone, and is certainly inappropriate for this thread. We simply can’t know what caused the accident,so no matter how much speculating we do,we can never be certain about what happenned.Leave the whole business to the investigators and await thier findings.Simple.
I was there aswell at the eastern end,and I saw the accident, but I still feel no need to comment on the incident. We have to remember our position of ‘enthusiastic amateur’ and leave the investigation to those most capable of coming to the correct conclusion.

Just to add my couple of pennies on the Concorde issue,I don’t mind Duxford getting another one,as long as it doesn’t mean something like the Hastings getting elbowed out to make room for it.If the IWM are allocated a Concorde,I still wonder how it would be delivered. The prototype was flown in before the M11 was built, and I’ve been told that the runway would now be too short to accept the aircraft.Maybe she could be delivered to Cambridge Airport and then towed or dismantled??
I’m hoping that the preservation issues surrounding Concorde might do the UK museum movement some favours as a whole. When you think about it,there are only two or three museums in the whole country which could accomodate one indoors, and even then one of those already has a prototype.I’m hoping that this sorry state of affairs might make more people realise how serious the shortage of hangarage is at many of our smaller museum sites in the UK,and even some of the bigger ones.We live in hope…
I noticed someone made a mention of the condition of the Victor in an earlier post, and I can understand why.Reassuringly, the interior is in far better shape than the exterior looks. Her current rough appearance is due in a large part to a botched paintjob which was done about 10 years ago.The camo paint and the matt laquer that went over the top of it had different chemical make ups,and as a result the laquer has actually attacked the layers below and caused the mess we see today. It was apparently known that this damage would occur at the time the stuff was applied, but it was seen as the most expedient option at the time.
As for tri-gear Shackletons, the example at Newark is possibly our best bet for long term preservation.Despite being outdoors, she appears to be in excellent nick inside and out.I only hope that Newark can get thier hands on yet more hangarage for thier larger exhibits to safeguard thier long term futures.

I hate to be the bringer of bad tidings, but you might wanna rethink your travel plans and set out a bit earlier. There’s a Robbie Williams gig in the area on the same day so the traffic might be worse than you’re expecting.Leave an hour or more earlier than you otherwise would just to make sure.

Concorde prototype for the axe??!I’m presuming that’s meant as some sort of joke! I knew about the Shack getting the ‘treatment’ which is bad enough, but Concorde would be going a step too far.Are you sure about your sorces cas???

    “What’s a Robinson Redwing?

It’s surely not a nasty, clattery, piston-driven eggbeater with aspirations towards fixedwingness is it?”

Nay my dear Cattermole, tis a biplane tourer from the 30’s,only 12 being built. The survivor,G-ABNX, was built in 1932 and was recently restored to airworthiness and I think is now based at Sywell.

Just so as I can be cowardly and indecisive,I’m splitting my favourites into certain groups, and even then I can’t pick just one-agh!
My favourite jet powered heavy would have to be any of the V-Bombers,but particularly the HP Victor. For fighters, well lots of stuff turns me on,but the Swift and Javelin are particular favourites.
    Others include the B47 Stratojet,A6 Intruder,Canberra,Su-15…ok,ok so I’m an indecisive sod! 😀

    10 anorak points granted Willow.:)
Nice pics Andrew, thanks for those, good to see her in such good shape despite being outdoors.
Has there been any progress with the legal side of things?I’ve heard the museum has been forced to close for a spell on more than one occasion because of problems with the ownership of the land or something of that nature.Anyone know what’s going on??

I’m hoping to get to OW this weekend, but just in case I don’t,does anyone know how long I’ve got to see the LVG before she’s grounded?I can’t see myself getting to OW before September if I don’t make it this weekend, would she still be flying by then?
