Hi Smiler,
All three of the Boscombe Buccs went to Cape Town,so whichever you worked on,she now happilly tears through the atmosphere over South Africa. 🙂
Morley, the Bucc is at Scampton sharing hangar space the Sukhoi and various other static and potentially airworthy aircraft.OFMC and HHA are hoping that the type might be cleared to fly at some point in the not too distant future.
I have to say I disagree with you Cirrus.I think everyone on this board would love to see Foxy in an authentic RN scheme, but I don’t think a commercial scheme does the aircraft any harm. The scheme Red Bull have dreamt up for her is actually pretty eye catching.I know it’s a bit gaudy and over the top,but then that’s so much the better for attracting folks to the aircraft who otherwise might not give poor old ‘CVIX a second glance. The in-yer-face approach could well win her some new fans, which in the long term may mean more support for the aircraft.
All in all I agree it’s a shame that we can’t support the aircraft by more conventional subtle means, but if it means she stays in the UK,I’m happy with it.
As Mark says,RN201 is owned by HFL and is still up for sale.Since Mr.Bos took over,HFL restore the aircraft then sell them, rather than selling the project and restoring them with a particular customer in mind.As it stands at the moment,Mk.XVI TD248 and Mk.XVIII SM845 are up for sale alongside RN201,with Tr.9 PV202 under rebuild.
Thanks for those Kev,nice shot of the TSR.2. 🙂 Just a slight queery about the DH Devon,is this the one BBMF used to use as a runabout? If not, then what happenned to it?
Well any other of the Lincoln would’ve been nice, but I was talking generally.Post anything you like Kev,they’re all aeroplanes afterall (except the eggbeaters ofcourse, but I happen to like those too!) 🙂
Well,I don’t think anything could look better on her…than an authentic Royal Navy scheme! 😉 That said, she could be a hell of alot worse,it does look rather smart, and it should certainly please the public.Nice one Red Bull!
Agreed, nose hatch on Lincoln RF398.Nice shot Kev,got any more per chance? 🙂
Well it’s good to know that HFL’s position seems so secure, but if the sale of the machines they restore isn’t important to the business, how does it function??I know Karel Bos is a wealthy man,but can he really afford to prop the company up to such a large degree?
The Spit is LF.IX MK912/G-BRRA,restored by Historic Flying Ltd.She was completed about 3 years ago but has only just been sold. This is the first spit that HFL have shifted in about 5 years,so this sale must come as a relief for them.
“Surely it’s becoming so structurally unsafe that it’s a health hazard? In that case, wouldn’t the local council be able to force his hand on Environmental Health grounds…?”
I think this all depends on what sort of land she’s on,whether it’s public land or private property. If it’s private property then you can basically do as you wish as there aren’t supposed to be any members of the public on the site to endanger. That’s my interpretation of it anyway.
Thanks for the pics anyway Steve, even if she aint much to look at. 🙁
Thanks for the link Yakrider,it certainly makes for tragic reading. 🙁 I too can’t understand how a magneto problem like that could go undetected,it must have been deteriorating for a long time before the day of the accident. It’s also worrying that the mags weren’t overhauled properly, sounds like somebody cut a corner somewhere.
Having said all this,it still doesn’t change the fact that Martin would probably have lived had the grass runway been clear. I know alot of folks are saying that those people on the runway were responsible, but to my mind keeping the active areas of the airfield clear of people is the job of the crowd marshals, and ultimately the show organisers.I would agree that some form of legal proceedings could be brought against the organisers, but I’d disagree that the spectators themselves were at fault.
I agree with Moggy, that PDF format is flamin’ awkward.Go back to HTML please…:(
Ooooooooops…
Hmmmmmm are you sure about that David?Looked like a Tempest canopy to me…:( Glad I haven’t put a bid in!
“I guess I am alone in thinking the shack needs to go.. Pride of Duxford my arse!”
Well I dunno as I’d agree that she outta ‘go’,but certainly she can’t stay as she is.She’s presently earmarked to become a wingless walk-through exhibit in the new superhanger extension,so she’ll be partially restored, partially scrapped. What I would like to know is why the Shack is deemed to be unsaveable in complete form. What’s meant to be wrong with the wings?Surelly if things were really that bad they’d corden her off and not allow folks underneath her,but this hasn’t happenned,so is the IWM’s reasoning on a financial basis rather than a technical one?
Ok Ian,sent you a private message with my contact details. 🙂
