RE: My favourite Mosquito
Without intending to challenge your intimate knowledge of the Mossie Nielly, are you sure this is a bomber and not a recce model? The colour scheme looks suspiciously like PR Blue.Just a thought…
Incidentally,I was wondering what colour schemes you were thinking of your flyable model. Will she be a B or a PR variant?
RE: More Spitfires- an MV293 medley
Nice piccy’s Philo!I can hear the intermitant growl of that Griffon at tick-over… 🙂
Was that lower piccy taken at Biggin Hill?
RE: PL865 the one legged Spitfire !!
Nice piccy philo. The undercarriage legs on most Spits retract seperately, two legs never moving at the same time.If I remember rightly the right leg goes up about four fifths of the way, then the left one goes up all the way to the up position, and then finally the right one pops into it’s bay. This may just be a querk of the models with retractable tailwheels, but I’ve got a feeling that the pattern is the same for the others.
Not meaning to nit-pick (again),the serial on this Spit is PL965.This is the pink one that’s now at Bartow in Florida.
RE: A little something for everyone?
The ‘fighter-nosed’ Canberra at Cosford is actually PR.9 XH171,so it is in fact completely unarmed,as opposed to the Interdictor Canberras with thier bombs and cannon packs.
The aquisition of this machine, and the state of the B(I).8, lead to the disposal of the latter about 15 years ago.
RE: “Long nose ” FW-190 coming
So far as I know the only example to be completed so far has been bought by a South African businessman.I don’t know about the ownership of other projects. As for them hitting the display season this year,I’d doubt it as the first one has yet to fly.Last I heard various systems were still being installed and snags ironed out.
It would be nice to think that the D-9 will be operated in the UK/Europe when she is completed.Any idea of the asking price??
RE: Thanks Halibag !
I’ve heard (or rather read) rumours of a Halifax in the Middle East. One or two civilian Hallys were bought by arab Shaques for use as luxury transports. The account I read talked about the possibility of atleast one of these machines being in storage.Sounds like fairytale stuff to be honest, but thought it might be worth airing.
RE: A little something for everyone?
The single seat ‘fighter-nosed’ Canberra was on display at Cosford for sometime-OUTDOORS.It detereorated to such an extent that scrapping was considered, but in the end it became part of an exchange deal with a museum in Australia. It’s been in storage in Oz for about 10 years, although restoration is said to be not too long in starting.
RE: Another for the Shuttleworth fans
Nice pic philo! 🙂 I don’t mean to nit pick, but the name should be Parnell Elf rather than Elf Parnell.Am I right in thinking that this was the only one built?
RE: ‘Night Flight’ on next weekend!!!
It is a bit annoying for the Beeb to stick the news in the middle, but it was originally intended to be broadcast in two episodes,so it shouldn’t interrupt the flow of things too much.
Having seen the trailer,it does look a little bit melodramatic, but the flying scenes should be enough to make it worth watching no matter what.
RE: Walrus heading for the paint shop!
Try the RAAF Museum’s website:
http://www.raafmuseum.com.au/
The Museum itself is situated at Point Cook airbase near Melbourne.
RE: Walrus heading for the paint shop!
I’m pretty sure that there is no intention for the RAAFM to fly this machine once complete.A restoration to ground running condition was talked about at one point, but airwaorthiness is not on the cards.
It is thought however that this static project might benefit any future plans to create/restore an airworthy example, due to the knowledge and parts brought together during this restoration.
RE: Another for Keithmac
Whew!Nice one philo!I think the Arrow Active has to be one of best looking biplanes ever built, second perhaps to such things as the Gladiator or Hawker Fury.I for one hope that both the Active and the LVG will be staying at Old Warden.
RE: Swedish Invader
The Dutch example,’Hard To Get’,went to the US,but I’ve not heard whether she has sold or not yet.The aircraft pictured above is the solid-nosed ‘Sugarland Express’ of the Scnadenavian Historic Flight, who so far as I know, intend to hold on to it.
RE: Skyshark
OK,that clears things up a bit, thanks folks.Apparently the prop spinner on this particular machine is a modified plastic dog kennel!
Strange the little things you remember…
RE: Another for Keithmac
I’ve heard that the RAF Museum, the owners of the LVG,have expressed a wish to ground her in the not too distant future and put her on static display at Hendon.Does anyone know if or when this will happen?
