Not good news, but glad to hear the pilot is now being reported to be ok.Not a good twelve months for the team, best wishes to all of them.
“Is there a surviving 12 cilinder Mulkim AM-35A?”
As I understand it the engine will be an original, built up using original parts from various recoveries aswell as some new build parts. I think they were having trouble finding serviceable bits for the reduction gear a few months back, dunno if that’s been solved.
Wonderful shots Steph, thanks for sharing. Just been looking at your website, some excellent pics there too.
Thanks again.
Allan,I’ve just looked at the link you provided and find the picture extremely grim. Could you remove the link please?
My sympathies go out to the pilot’s friends and family, and to all those involved with the aircraft.
In addition to listening into the w/t during the daytime air tests, the Germans also had highly sensitive listening devices on the Dutch coast which could hear the bombers’ engines while they were still over East Anglia! Wouldn’t be much use for predicting precisely where a raid was headed though I don’t suppose.
The Aero Vintage example was restored for static display and air freighted to the National Aviation Museum at Rockliffe,Ottawa in the mid-90’s.
“Haven’t Shuttleworth recently acquired a Bucker Jungmann (on static at FL?)

Yep,she’s painted in an overall grey Luftwaffe scheme and was put through her paces at the VJ Day show at OW.
“(for a ‘108, which I think this one is?).Daz”
As I understand it,’ME has an official build date of 1951 and is registered as a Nord. However, the majority of airframe parts have German part numbers stamped on them,so it’s likely the aircraft was either built up from a stock of 108 spares or is perhaps even a reconditioned and relabelled wartime example. So I suppose what you call it is up to you. 🙂
Correcting myself slightly,it seems Gawrons have fences on the wingtips only, rather than another at mid-span as I’d previously thought…
My brother is down at Pevensea at the moment and texted me while I was at work saying how much he was enjoying lying on the beach soaking up and the sunshine while the BBMF,Eurofighter etc were displaying overhead. I wasn’t even slightly envious.
Git. 😀
“The Griffon’s still out of the MkXVIII.”
*Pedantic cap on…*
Presuming you mean the TFC example,it’s a Mk.XIV.
*pedantic cap off…*
Sorry,couldn’t help meself
There’s an excllent series of books concentrating on particular RAF bombing raids by Martin Middlebrook, published in paperback by Cassel. Each one has an extensive appendix giving various statistics, including Luftwaffe claims and RAF losses, tied up where possible. I own a copy of “The Nuremburg Raid”,but I’ve recently moved and it’s in deep storage so I can’t look anything up for you. I hope this pointer will be of some use though.
Like all the books in the series it’s a very good read,I’m half-way through “The Battle of Hamburg” at the moment.
“The Hurricane must be one of the oldest in preservation, with the shorter ‘stub’ spinner instead of the longer one i’ve seen on all flying ones.”
IIRC,there is just one other Hurri preserved with the pointy DH prop and that’s in Finland. L1592 at South Kensington is thought to be the only survivor with canvas covered wings though.
I could go into a bit of a rant about the lack of light and the dark ceiling in the museum’s flight gallery, but I’ll resist…
Hi Eric,
According to http://www.bac1-11jet.co.uk,it’s G-AVMJ…
“31 July 2005
The former European Aviation Cabin Trainer G-AVMJ left Bournemouth last night on a low loader. It arrived at the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST) Museum at Farnborough Airport. It will be restored to its former glory and displayed to the public when complete. It’s great news that another 1-11 has been saved from the scrapman albeit the fuselage only in this case!”
There was an item on the BBC’s Look East TV news bulletin roughly a week ago about the arrival and re-assembly of a Harrier GR3 at an ATC squadron in Bletchley, which I think came from Cosford.
Last I heard, she was in storage somewhere in Norfolk awaiting restoration and/or export. She appeared in the static line-up at one of the Legends shows (can’t remember which,’95 possibly),and was in one of the hangars at DX for a year or two after. Incidentally, she’s actually a single-seater and not a T.20.
