I don’t know of any car that the steering lock will come on unless you remove the key completely from the ignition. I think that this is an ‘industry standard’ safety feature.

You may well be right Creaking Door, I was flapping at the time and my friend I’m sure was much more cool and calm than me and I’m sure it was because I was a 20 year old living at home working in an insurance office and he had been in the army since we were 16 !

In my old Escort Mk II “popular plus”. Old “T” reg (YRX 781 T)

Driving in snow, ice built up around the accelerator cable and it jammed, came off a main road into a country lane and went to change down, the engine stayed at high revs.

I started to flap and panic, my passenger (at the time a serving soldier and recently trained HGV driver) leaned across and turned off the ignition without applying the steering lock and we coasted to a halt.

Opening up the bonnet we found ice and snow had driven under the bonnet and or through the radiator and built up around the carbarettor etc, and the accelerator cable was packed solid with ice. We used a cigarette lighter to melt it and we were on our way.

Oddly enough, we pulled up at his house and a twunt in a Volvo with snow all over his windows backed into the drivers door and did a few hundred quids worth of damage.:eek:

Anyway, I’ve not long watched Star Trek again….!

same here – my Blu-ray copy came back after a long term loan (I’ll lend anybody a movie but FFS don’t keep it two months…..:mad:) so my son and me watched it last night.

You do see a few plot holes at the 4th viewing – like why does it take 5 mins to get to Vulcan at the start, and several hours to get back while Kirk does his ice planet thing – but ignore my petty whinge – it’s two hours of utter, top quality entertainment and certainly the film I enjoyed most last year.

I saw a trailer for the “A-Team” yesterday, could be worth a look……

I agree totally with the sentiment and it needs as much debate and publicity as it can get. Its not a “vote winner” so if the law were to change it would be along the lines of a private members bill I would imagine.

Its possible technically, a panel of doctors to verify as detailed below, lawyers as well (and the cost of these would surely be less than a bed, full time care, drugs etc for X period of time)

The only eye contact I would have is when the cyclist is sliding across my bonnet then up the windscreen……I would then pause, operate the wash wipe facility to push him back onto his cycle path whilst carefully flattening his bike.:p

BSG-75, hope your mum’s ok, is there any cctv footage of this incident? maybe a shop system that overlooks the precinct.

Sprained wrist and bruised hip thanks Baz, also a bit confused and doesn’t quite remember where it was so no go on the CCTV, it was a adult woman with a boy of about 10, the boy hit her, he stopped and the woman (can I say bitch ?) urged him back onto his bike and away.:mad:

1) Unqualified, uninsured cyclists who insist that every road and pavement is thiers as they are saving the planet don’t you know? (and that means you, yes you, the **** who knocked my 70 year old mother onto her recently replaced hip on a precinct in Newbury yesterday and then fled the scene.

2) The benefits system that hands out to people who won’t work instead of a public works programme so people can earn their handouts.

3) PC numpties who take offence on behalf of other people when we use a word like “blackboard”.

4) Outsourced call centres that learn their English from soap operas.
