I was last there two years ago, “rescue day” in the harbour right there where the statue is. Like others, happy childhood memories, I spent some time there while on honeymoon, but like all English seaside towns they must be suffering in the current climate (economic and meteorological) so good luck to them….. not my cup of tea :eek:but to each their own….. if it attracts some visitors…. all for the better.

i am offended that you are offended by me being offended by others being offended jon! 😀

Dear fellow, non gender specific forum member. I use the word “member” with no reference, specific or implied to any genitalia, male or female and I welcome your freedom of choice to associate with either.
I welcome your openness and embrace you whole heartedly with no implied social interaction or that of any gender, race, religion or social activity.
I would like to offer you solace from your offence and release you from any angst or anger that my post may have bought you. I trust that you have access to the required counselling to ease you from the burden of your stress and anger and wish you peaceful recuperation.
May your journey to tranquillity be peaceful and bereft of the devils laughter and associated frivolity.

It is indeed a open forum but if something is posted that causes offence then it should be removed. All that had to happy was that Moggy removed the offending image and apologize for any offence caused. End of problem.

Don’t hold your breath. I complained first thing this morning and have heard nothing in reply. I don’t expect I will.

BSG-75 – you are right about one.The forum has indeed gone downhill. And it’s easy to see why.

So in the words of Stephen Fry:

It’s now very common to hear people say “i’m rather offended by that” as if it gives them certain rights, it’s actually nothing more….it’s simply a whine, it’s no more than a whine “i find that offensive” it has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase “i’m offended by that” ………

“Well so (guess what word was here….) what”

If I am offended by what I see as a forceful push on a member/moderator, are your posts to be erased ? No, if you are offended by my offence, is my post removed…. ?

    No.

I think Blair was a shallow, devious dishonest man who has saddled the country with endless problems, the least of which is a savage war still ongoing at a shocking cost in life.

Is that a political view, possibly, but endlessly debatable, unless my post is removed as it causes offence……

There is far more to debate here, far more important things than the difference in your sense of humour to that of another, the post has stayed, if that causes offence, there is an “Off switch” to use and a few million other forums to use.

This is getting very Monty Python…. we have a moderator, can we burn him ?
One GD moderator was hounded out a while back, and now rarely returns even to post as a member, his sharp views and humour I certainly miss. I don’t always agree with Moggy as a member or a moderator for that matter, but what with this being a discussion forum and all, I understand that to be the general idea.

A while ago Kev35 described the GD board as a “bear pit”, it seems to have gone downhill since then. A thread that discussed a major headline issue with possible discussion points to include the public media trial of a dead man with no voice to defend himself, the security service possibly not checking into his background when he was close to the Prime Ministers family, an alleged culture of harassment at the state broadcaster and many others.

We are left with what I would describe (as a forum member and engaged in an open debate) pious and self righteous indignation at a double entendre.
I just had to split my two kids up from a squabble over “Finius and Ferb” or “Myth Busters” on TV, their argument back about “who started it” reminds me a lot of this thread in places and while I do the fatherhood bit freely as sometimes the little rat bags love me back, I wouldn’t sit as a moderator on this forum for love nor money.

As for Mr/Sir Saville, I’ll stick my neck out a touch more, I am uncomfortable at the notion of a media trial in his absence, the allegations are serious and truly vile, I question why so many people stayed quiet so long. I am lucky enough not to be in such a situation so cannot speak from experience, so I cannot begin to imagine their mindset and situation.

two of the guys at work were very negative about this last week and today. “whats the point?” they said…………………

The world is a bit of a grim place at the moment, whatever scare story takes your fancy will have you believe we are all doomed by benefits cheats or an Iranian nuclear device…..

and this guy does something like that………. I was on the edge of my seat last night when he began to spin, and I also had a thought, probably utter cobblers, that maybe, just maybe, he pulled the ‘chute early so as not to take all three records, he got highest and fastest, but not longest freefall – I wonder……. I just wonder if that was no accident.

I think it was fantastic, just fantastic.
