anyhow, “Guns Of Navarone” is well worth a long wet Sunday afternoon flopped on the sofa, Alistair MacLean was a very good writer of adventure stories, these two movies stick very close to the books.

Y’know, I don’t think I have ever sat down and watched The Guns of Navarone all the way through! 😮

This “war” on terror that is costing so many young lives is a conflict of ideologies, however flawed. (oil, Islam, christianity etc) both leaders of both sides proclaim that their god is on their side, but at the core of each set of beliefs is surely somewhere, “compassion”. If the man is close to death, then surely the compassionate thing is to let him die at home, with family. I don’t think for one second he made a long distance call to the Colonel and said “I’m coming home lay on a band”.

He is home, let him be with his family and whatever deity he believes in, he’ll be with him soon enough it seems and then judgement will follow, if thats what we choose to believe in.

Had the house to myself tonight, Mrs away for work, kids at the in-laws. So I treated myself to “Sky Box Office”, and it is very very good. One of those stories where you know that they are all doomed, but you will them on. Brits play pretty much all the Germans bar young Tom of course, and I did laugh out loud when Kenneth Cranham in full uniform as a Field Marshall says with perfect cockney, “‘ave some fresh tea sent in”.

Well worth a look.
