You could almost start to think that someone was trying to obscure the story so that people don’t make comparisons with the present day, couldn’t you?
I thought it rang some bells this morning, spread out all over, shortages etc etc. We seem to be repeating the history that we failed to learn from…..:(

Had some real a**** h**** when I lived in a flat. a drunk insoniac who loved last night of the proms upstairs. Two blokes rented a flat and had 3 am raves. Took 2 months before the landlords chucked them out – got one of them into my flat one day to show him the ceiling shaking etc – he agreed it was bad then turned it off. For 30 mins. Ended up calling the letting agency and leaving my phone connected to their answer phone so they could listen to the music themselves.
More recently, a neighbour left their 18 year old daughter alone – dreaded party kicked off. Nightmare, damage to my fence, music until past 3 am – parents told me that they had alcohol issues with her since she was 13. And you missed these clues why Sherlock ????
Nothing worse than falling out with the neighbours – or indeed upsetting them, second day in our house (it has a shared drive) we had a vistor who blocked off a garage, neighbour wigged out. Went round next day with an apology PDQ.

The Dark Knight
Xmas DVD gift – second viewing, very very good if not 20 mins too long maybe.
Everything you read about Heath Ledger as “The Joker” is true – total psychopath portrayed without excess. He steals the movie, without upstaging and chewing the scenery. Also asks a few valid questions about values etc.

I like these publications, they are like extended magazine articles with enough room for decent artwork and pictures. If they have a limitation it is only in page size which restricts picture quality – but it keeps the cost down and if you shop around you can get bargin prices. I have the two Hurricane aces, both very good. I tend to learn “gems” that I knew nothing about and have posted some of these on the board before. I never knew the Chinese used Gladiators (the Gladiator aces book is another excellent one). The Iranian F-14 & Israeli F-15 ones are interesting, especially the early chapters on selection of the aircraft. I must have 40 or so of these and the only one that I didn’t enjoy was “Middle east air wars” – far too light and brief, maybe too much to cover in a small book.
I tend to buy them when my interest is tweaked by a magazine article or something on the history channel. After “dogfights” I got the two F-8 books and the Israeli mirage one as well.
Vietnam Skyraider and Korean F-4U books due in 2009 I think. My last cover to cover read was “Malta Spitfire Aces” – again, I posted a thread on this, some new detail such as a Spitfire with the canopy removed to aid visibility and the blue paint work. The Hurricane aces 1939-1940 shows a Hurricane with a “bubble” style canopy – again, totally new to me (artwork, not photo but still worth it)
According to Pierre Closterman’s book, The Big Show. a Bf109G was intercepted and destroyed over the Orkneys (although I seem to recall somewhere that Closterman was not present during the combat – even though the book makes out he was).
Interesting – I read as well there was some “dispute” about his kills?. Maybe bad taste to query given his flying record and that he isn’t with us any more?
as for the Arado’s – not sure if they could do the flights with a bomb load (range etc) but a few bombs dropped blindly on London from altitude may have got some attention? Welkin not fast enough I think, Mosquito ? Meteor would struggle at that height IIRC they were well suited lower down but early versions struggled at altitude? May be wrong, I often am….:(
Hurricats
By Ralph Barker – paperback will set you back 1p (plus P&P) from the “Other” buyer links on amazon
Bad Santa….
Generally gross and not too funny IMHO BUT – one classic which I’ve used a few times at work since:
“You wish? Well, tell you what, you wish on one hand and S**T on the other and you tell me which hand fills up first”

MK V ?
I thought it was the Mark V that was the “army co-operation” variant so may have these sirens?
In either an “old wings of fame” or “international air power review” (sore point) there is a detailed variant briefing with line drawings etc, so I this may show on there. Will have a look when I get home later.
Don’t be cruel – my kids draw Spitfires that look just like that every day, especially my 4 year old……….:diablo:
