actually, its heart breaking in places, his father was a TV repair engineer in the 50’s who died when the writer was 11. Poor kid tried making a time machine out of tubes and valves from the fathers tool kit.

anyhow – these airfields captured in Germany, simple (?) question, were these airframes (bar a few taken to UK, USSR, GB etc) scrapped, burned, buried ?

I wouldn’t mind so much but there are countless “works of art” in storage, in Royal buildings and government buildings that Joe public can’t get at – art ’em all I say, make them all accessable then a few like this one can slip away and spend the 10 million on something else.

My son is now 9, has a Mk V Spit chasing an Me-109 on his bedrrom ceiling, being chased in turn by a He-162 “salamander” – he also has a few of my books piled on his floor. We did the cub scout airmanship badge at Duxford a few weeks back, and he has a B-25 Mitchell and P-47 to add to the bedroom ceiling air war. Time to start with my daughter who did like watching “dogfights”…… a start.

I try and add in some of the history as well – very important to me and that seems to be of interest as well. For a Dad/enthusiast places like Cosford with the educational element are fantastic.

Past year we have done Hendon, Yeovilton, Cosford, Coventry and IWM in London.

Then again we have a 3 hour ballet show saturday evening with my daughter – 😮

a friend used to have a couple of old Rover turbines that were shipboard firefighting pumps or something IIRC – we took one to Bruntingthorpe in a rig and fired it up.

In truth, I was happier sitting in one of the Lightning cockpits wondering why it was so small – I’m 5ft 8 and in jeans and a jacket I struggled 😮
