I once saw an interview with a British guy who was an expert on military aircraft (belive he worked for RAF) who claimed (backed up by a lot of co workers) that while working on an oil rig in the North sea in the late 1980s he once saw something really odd. A KC-135 refuling a completely triangular aircraft, flanked by two F-111. He swore on his life he hadnt seen anything like it before or since, and that he was 100% positive it wasnt a B-2.

Has anyone heard about this incident? And if so, do you know if this “mystery plane” was ever identified? (My guess it was some sort of A-12 Avenger prototype, or just a missidentification, a hoax, a lie, a…)

Just google “aurora refuelling” and you’ll see a nice grainy, well known snap of this – I think he was having you on?

Hi BSG-75, my comment was from a restoration point of view. Its a low back XVI & should stay that way, thats my preferance anyway. Like they say the customer is always right !!!! I suppose the precident was set with TE 184 !!!

I’m with you now – and I understand what you say & agree, I’m a service manager for a “leading Japanese electronic company – with 4 letters in the name” so I’ll disagree on the customer bit though ! – but this is great though, another classic to fly – can’t ask for more than that !

Battlestar Galactica

am off a few days as British gas run havoc in the house (new boiler – ouch:mad:)

so sat in front of the pilot/mini series – happy 3 hrs

Is that a taste or from the restoration point of view? I always had the thought that Merlin Spitfires look “right” (a nice subjective term!) high backed, and Griffon Spitfires look “right” with a low back. I was just curious about what you said.

the latest “hulk” – which is far better than the last one, runs like a TV episode and they work in some cameos (stan lee, lou faringo, bill bixby on a TV). not much to write home about, but better than ******** come dancing which the Mrs has on every ********* night…… 😡

isn’t that always the way? I had a bimble on the way out at about 3 pm – have a mate who used to go to a lot of MG events in a cash hole of a Jubilee Special.

Lovely day up there as you know – would have been nice to have seen a few warbirds wheeled out into the sunshine, but yes, had two boys with me and the scout quiz sheets (there were a few hundred others there as well I guess you saw!).

As for my thread question, Spitfires in 1948 ? Thats a shocker but it makes sense I guess.

Our local model zone has them as well, with B-26, Mosquito, B-24, HE-111 and others.

I blagged a costal command coloured B-24 – its the size of a house but I love it!

Finally at rest

I agreed with one of the comments on the mail WWW site, and I’ve said similar myself on here – true heros, not overpaid footballers etc who often get called the same.

maybe early in the US involvement? – there was that famous black B-17 with changable serial numbers that when scrapped, had some parts shipped to Los Alamos…. not sure I could see the need after that with the range of airframes available ?

the Languedoc looks (to me anyway) like a Junkers 90 or 290 – looking at what I have at home on the windows and overal shape, could be?
