I agree….
and, no offence but if Land Girls get a medal…… come on “establishment”…. get to it
I’d say Lincs would be a perfect place for it.
What aircraft is this and why on earth did the designers (presumably) deliberatly mount the cockpit off centre?
That is if it is off centre and I’m not going mad…!
Don’t forget the Sea Vixen, Canberra PR-9 (?) anything by Blohm & Voss (well, almost anything!)
I went to the Midland a few weeks back with BSG junior, fantastic place, people there only too keen to help (we waited a while to get into the Vulcan, gave up and they came looking for us to take us up, then opened up the F-14 for me as well) I’d tell anybody to go there.

scroll down to desktop custom models, £250 or so? its worth giving them a call – the WWW page is a let down but they are nothing but helpful and in the newsletter they do promote the custom models side.
worth a look I think?
good luck;)
They are more expensive than other lines, but the detail makes up for it I think. I’ve got a $300 1/200 Tu-160 that is nowhere near the quality of the F-14. Then there’s the Gaincorp line, which are notoriously inaccurate and flawed. This has to be the best line I’ve seen so far WRT detail and accuracy.
Witty Wings are cheap and cheerful as well, other than the Sea Fury. I had a Spitfire VIII with the pilot way to far back. I can recommend Hobby Master and Gemeni Aces for detail (and cost…)

check this F-104 out, F-100 soon as well, heard rumours of a P-61 next year. IXO do a huge range but the quality varies.
That’s a real shame – he has done some fine work, I have some of his publications I can see from here.
The french one was a Centaurus engined bird.
Bruce
thank you – wishful thinking on my part probably – I can imagine a Napier would be a nightmare to restore/operate even considering some of the incredible things people have managed to achieve in the restoration world….
that looks reasonably believeable lol wonder how interesting it would have been to fly 😉
its an aerospace publishing book that I have on the F-14 – I’d back their research, having the stars and bars on the upper side of both wings looks a bit odd but its the real deal. wonder if they tried it with a Tornado as well?
I’m a sucker for die-casts…. I have 4 century wings now, the F-14 “locked for take off” with nose wheel compressed, A-6, A-7 and F-8 – all superb as you say. A bit more pricey than some, Hobby Master for example do some superb jet aircraft in 1/72, I was tempted today with a Mirage 2000 at only £25 – my F-8 was £40….
century wings 1/144 F-14 is excellent as well if space is a problem – it is for me, I just picked up a 1/48 scale B-24…….
crazy, have you got a picture of it to hand?
here you go – have seen it written about in “written” print as well – I’d say it was genuine.
How about the various Tempests that seem to be in storage forever.
Cheers
Cees
have been getting my hopes up far too long on these…… even heard a while back of a Napier engined Tempest in France (?)
is that possible?
aircraft No 3 was used between Dec 1985 and Feb 1986, landings were made with the aft swept wing at 60 degrees (not the max of 70 I think it is) 4 in service aircraft suffered the fault so they tested at Pax River
Well there you go, I do hope that none of these pics are doctered!
I hope not as well – I have my hands on 3 F-8 books since I started digging and non feature in those (all by the same author though) and not in the old wings of fame volume that featured the F-8 – I’d have thought one would have made its way in ?
still, never let the truth get in the way of a good story as they say !:diablo:
ever seen that snap of the F-14 with one wing swept back and the other locked forwards? That is 100% genuine for sure.
what was the transport?
saw it last night and managed to scoff at the wierd beaufighter internal configuration. the single line at the end of the film was the funniest part of the whole thing except the football played with communist chinese soldiers (as footballs) 😀
fairchild or transall ?
Oh no, the yak, its Yakked…… LMAO….
Interesting adaption of the cockpit. It was a single seater up front, no?
Good attention to detail, the nose is dented in one take.
Old aircraft in films: ‘Every little helps’ 🙂
saw it today – useful cargo door on the side so they could have a machine gun there a la UH-1 Vietnam, single seat offset to to left in the cockpit, but yes – as you say every little helps, otherwise well detailed, Aussie green colours etc.
had to slap BSG junior about the head though, he thought it was a Whirlwind… bad boy, no Macdonalds…. am sure his mother was unfaithful…..?
I recall reading of one WW2 aircraft ( F4U Corsair ? ) which caused a few accidents.
Apparently, the wing fold selector had 3 positions – Fold, unfold and lock.
It was apparently possible to unfold the wings and leave the selector in that position – which didn’t isolate the wing actuators form the rest of the hydraulic system.
So, the aircraft takes off, pilot selects U/C up…….. and the U/C actuators drain the fluid from the open wing fold mechanism. 😮
Anyone care to confirm ?
In N Hansons book about flying Corsairs he describes it happening (Carrier Pilot?) – scary.
