any more where that came from?
I’m a service manager and no b****** has ever offered me a nice memento like that!
anywhere indoors…..
have got my gloomy head on about the weather…… don’t fancy tugging an 8 year old around if the weather is **** ! May play it by ear now on which day I go, don’t want to miss it – OK on my own in the rain, BSG-Junior may get the ‘ump which is fair enough….:(
That downward firing ejection seat that some F-104’s had will spoil his day if it goes wrong……:diablo:
and if it rains at Fairford
they will be sheltering under 558…. never mind, another time !
I think the Chinook and Puma eventually ended up being incorporated into the RAF fleets and the two A109 ended up being used by that rough lot from Hereford (;)).
One HU-1H is flying in private hands in the UK.
Isn’t one of the RAF Chinooks in Afghanistan a hybrid made of part of an ex Argentine machine, one of the Red Tops had it detailed when HRH was using a UK based machine for “personal” use?
Quite a well known picture I think ?, the spit was used by Squadron Leader Brian lane, OC 19 Squadron during the Battle of Britain, this image is in the Osprey MK1 Spitfire Aces book captioned as 1940 at Fowlmere. The aircraft had a yellow spinner its said from a brief spell at an OTU. P9386 was also featured by Corgi in two di-cast models in 1/32 and 1/72 scale with the yellow spinner – the OTU story doesn’t seem to fit in with the history of aircraft movements that can be found.
fantastic…
What a fantastic little gem of history you’ve shared there – I’ve seen “blue” high altitude spits stripped down to 2 .50 calibre guns but these are great – thanks…
Special Op’s helo’s is pretty much known, boys own stuff of an idea for a raid on an Argentine airfield with Hunters (in Chilean AF markings ?) but while Chile supported us along the lines of the enemy of my enemy is my friend, I can’t see them hosting (at least openly) forces engaged in combat with a country that shared a (disputed) border. Canberra’s on reccie missions could be hidden in plain sight as well, just don’t see this holding up. It may have started as an idea of how to get the F-4’s involved, they must have been going made with bordom and envy to see the “mud moving” Harriers get involved and the FAA SHARS, some with RAF pilots as well….
what a beast……
fantastic piece of kit that, what a job they’ve done……maybe now they have finished the 558 team can go get it in the air:diablo:!
inside knowledge?
I thought they had a fair bit of life left but will happily be corrected……
lovely aircraft though – saw a couple of belting pictures of low level flying by Andy Cubin in Oman………between hangers etc,
hear hear !
Gawd help us !

Enough ?
When can we finally expunge this subject of this completely irrelevant, utterly tedious politically-correct non-issue. Nothing to see here, move on please. Really.:(
am watching the original tonight with my 8 year old, Nigger was heard to be said, and he didn’t put a pillow case over his head and join a clan…… its an old fashioned word used in context – get a life people……
surely……….
they could be flown to pieces in Afghanistan now rather than run down the harriers that may be needed while the F-35 drags is sorry backside through testing? wrong forum ?
either that or they could be sold (India? Oman?) as they are in such good condition?
I don’t think it’s some sort of master plan…
They’re making rules, some silly, some not. .[/B]
like closing post offices left, right and centre yet spending money advertising the, and keeping the three open that service the House Of Commons because they now (after a very recent change) have the same address.
sorry, way off thread and rant over – amusing yet sad story that there is an assumption of attack and a good point about a Biz jet – probably falls into the same “class” as one of the Rapides that can still fly with passengers….barking, the world is turning barking mad……
Who on earth said anything about giving up flying old aircraft?
check why Classic Wings can no longer fly passengers on the Dakotas….. they need voice recorder, terrorist proof doors on the cockpits, transponders yadda yadda yadda……
pathetic:mad::mad:
slow design process
Lincoln first flew (as Lancaster MK IV) on June 9th, 1944 – the second on Nov 9th, 1944. The European war was “Going well” and Avro had one eye on the civil market as well. The longer range of the Lincoln was initially aimed at eastern Europe but the Russian advance curtailed this, and the far eastern requirement was second in the mindset. (Not my own knowledge, blagged from Lincoln at war – fine book)
also, having been whinging on the modern forum about the slow dleivery, if you get the international air power review, there is a great piece in issue 24 about Lancs and Lincolns in Argentina, used during the military coups, Lincolns attempting to copy Dam Buster missions, testing with copies of German henschel guilded missiles….. really interesting and well worth a shufty to pick up some info about the two types thats far from mainstream.
and back to the Lincoln, what is it with that nose design?! – all that glazing ? seems they spent years on the design but did that bit in 5 mins flat !
