couldn’t they also (and if I’m off track be gentle…) park a jet in front of another (with nose air intakes?) and use the thrust of the front aircraft to start the turbines on the second? seem to recall it somewhere on the F-86 ?

also, took a small Rover turbine to Bruntingthorpe a few years back with a friend to an event – it was one designed to use in ships for fire fighting – hand cranking that was ********* hard work, but once it went off it made a nice loud noise, he had two (why not….?!) great fun so long as the cradle was nice an secure – he evil bayed them in the end, the neighbours called the feds one night about the noise….. can’t say as I blame them but it was fun for a while…

Seafang, Spitful, MB5 etc would surely belong more in a Science Museum type display in a “end of the piston era” type theme – can’t see the RAF museum as the place for it and I agree with the above, assuming (easy part…) money to be no object, then a Hampden, Stirling, Whitley, Boston/Havoc or even a restored Halifax would be nearer the front of the queue.

Going off thread a bit – what substantial parts of a Stirling does the RAF museum hold?

I remember well in the early 80’s, for my sins I had a w/e job in “Bejam” – had an EX RAF Navigator who came in as a trainee manager after his 20 odd years in the RAF. Toured (if I recall) Vulcans, Victors, Hercs and Andovers and I remember talking to him about the supersonic flight and at the time he was unaware – thought it was odd at the time, now my company where I’ve worked for 16 years do things that I know nothing about !

Either way – lovely looking machine, never knew it was known as the “crikey”….

a big “what if…” aircraft for me – imagine what damage a single squadron could have done to a 1940 air raid… etc

And the most funny moment in cinema or TV heaven? Maybe it was that 1980s TV drama with Me109s painted up to look like Spitfires and a airworthy Spitfire painted up to look like an Me109. As for funny – funny. Not sure. Airplane, perhaps?

But I have to disagree with you re “National Post Service”. In Holland some people get their issues on time, others have to wait several weeks or even months!
It really is the distributor who is at fault…

wasn’t it shipped from Breda in the Netherlands for a while (I’ve been there on work trips more times than I can count) but you are right, excellent content, lousy distribution and management.
