This is not the first time Indians did the seeker
The โStyxโ missiles have been subject to extensive in-service modification, indeed Indian sources would suggest that each of the former Soviet Navy fleets may have adapted their missiles to meet anticipated local tactical conditions. It is reported that MS-2A and IR. sensors have been retrofitted into earlier missiles together with ECCM hardware. Indian sources suggest that improvements in seeker technology developed by the Defense Research and Development Laboratories in Hyderabad and the Naval Chemical and Metallurgical Laboratories in Vishakhapatnam were adopted into the missiles of the Soviet Navy.
Normally? You have to sell something first before the practice becomes “normal.”……………..”
There have been some low profiled sales and service activities . Thats why “normally”
For helicopter Viets may consider ALH/Dhruv
Normally India gives equipment to Vietnam on friendship prices. IMHO LCA too will be offered at friendship rates.
really?
PAF Sabres were also used to attack IAF airfields, and even on these attack missions still manage to down more IAF jets, what applied to the hunter also applied to the Sabre…….
1)Difference between A2A going on bombing roles and shooting down enemy jets is one thing and A2G going on bombing role and shooting enemy jets.
2)pre emptive surprise strikes on Indian territory vs Deep striking with enemy fully alert on Pakistani territory.
3) Please tell me which specific inscidents are you talking about?
Escorts
True Victor
But PAF dont feel the need to call the F-86 the “Hunter Killer” ๐The score stands at 20 PAF aircraft lost to the Hunter and 57 Hunters lost to the F-86……..thats certainly more decisive!
AFIK, A2G Hunter pilots refused to be accompanied by any fighter escorts. Fully laden Hunters attacked the most defended targets like Sargodha and radar in Badin. Losses are meaningless outside the context of the outcome.
IMHO this excercise was jus about skills. AFIK aftermath of 1971 a US Air Commander had enquired if IAF was using computers on aircraft for accuracy in bombing and were impressed by the A2A encounters between fully loaded hunters and Sabres (reference “My Years with IAF” by Air Marshal PC Lal). The BVR scenario was not played in COPE-04. USAF is technologically still superior. They are definition of superiority means they should be 2-3X more superior if IAF is X superior. They want to be generations ahead for airsuperiority.
Hyperplane
As Usual
J-10 is as usual different. ๐ ๐
๐ I must have mised it. I saw the pic the first time. Entire show they were talking about HAWK and L159B.

Hawk might be a sensible choice in many ways but BAE has zero leverage in the UAE whereas LM couldnโt be better placed.
I was there at Dubai airshow most of the days, even 2nd and 3rd day. No T-50’s were there. The only AJT’s featured there ere L-150B and HAWK.
Regarding the HAWKS
BAE SYSTEMS and GAMCO near agreement on Hawk support joint venture
Discussions between BAE Systems and GAMCO on forming a Hawk support joint venture, based in the United Arab Emirates, are at an advanced stage.
Regarding UAE Buying more HAWKs
UAE Air Force looks at more Hawk aircraft
posted on 10/12/2003
The UAE Air Force is looking at more Hawk aircraft as well as upgrading some from its present fleet of 34, said a top official of BAE Systems. The UAE has three different types of Hawks โ the Mark 61, Mark 63 and Mark 102 with glass cockpit. There are over 100 Hawks in the Gulf with Saudi Arabia operating 50, the UAE 34, Oman 16 and now Bahrain gets six. (The Gulf News)
The reason for this post is because I read in the latest AFM’s(Feb. 2004) issue on page 20 states that “money for research and developement of the MAKO has allegedly not been forthcoming from the emirate and its future, at least in the UAE, must be in doubt.”
” A selection of the aircraft is likely to be finalised by mid-2004 and the UAE is watching the launch customer with interest. After that it may make a financial commitment,” Gerhard Labitsch, vice-president, Middle East-Maghreb, told Gulf News.
“There are discussions going on but at this point there is no financial commitment,” he said, adding that EADS is keen that partners in the programme also undertake risk and revenue sharing.
I was under the impression they already invested. I saw the MAKO simulator ( couple of rude instructors were manning it). The cockpit was neat (but nothing to write much about). The weapon controls were on finder tips on joystick (like small buttons). otherwise its just as driving around in a automatic car.
Both the aircrafts are maintained in India. But critical parts have to come from the respective countries.
They were in India in October 2003. They displayed at Hindan airbase.
They did shows with the Indian team called “Surya Kirans”

Pilots from both teams here ๐

Qatar has replaced Kuwait as major base for US. But Kuwait remains an important all of US. I wouldn’t see French air based equipment. I predict Kuwait buying F-16 like UAE.
In addition Existing 60 + Hawks for UAE AF are getting upgraded. The middle east region has atleast 200 Hawks. Another dimension of ME region is harmonization. The whole region is going to be equiped with similar equipment and joint defences.
We won’t see T-50’s in ME soon.
