Incredible that it’s thirty years ago. it doesn’t seem like it. I was an apprentice electrician at the time and we were wiring out a the workshop of a large Ford main dealer. The radio was always on and they interupted the program to give us the news about HMS Sheffield. The place came to a standstill, you could of heard a pin drop.

I like to keep an open mind on these things but could someone explain in simple terms what would have been the point of doing it if it did happen!

When I came home from work last night sgt.austin junior told me he was sure he saw the Sea Vixen circling Yeovilton at about 3.45pm. Had they reported a problem and thought about/tried landing there or was she around Yeovilton for another reason?

Born in Glastonbury, near Yeovilton, family moved to a village called Butleigh, nearer to Yeovilton, when I was a baby. I grew up there then moved to Keinton Mandeville, a village nearer to Yeovilton, then moved within the village to a house about half a mile nearer to Yeovilton.
By the way, did I mention I live near Yeovilton?

They had a feature on this on our local news last night. It really was a tight squeeze to get her in, took several attempts as it was down to millimeters either side and the under carriage had to be adjusted to lower her down for the rotorhead to clear the door. The paint scheme did look strange but attrctive and from what I could see it looked as though the tail section had been painted separately then re-attached. The yellow/grey scheme looked as if it had been done on the wrong sides of the folded tail section as it looked all yellow on one side with the tail folded whereas there should of been grey showing (if you see what I mean!). It may of been a trick of the light, they showed that bit so quickly it is hard to say for sure. Anyway, she appeared to be parked into a small dark corner so I doubt that anyone will notice. If anyone is visiting perhaps they could check it out.

Does anyone know what it would take to get Kermit’s Mossie airworthy? Is it mechanical overhaul or are there issues with glue and laminates etc? I’m sure I heard a while back that there were some problems with the wood unglueing.

Remember the aerojumbles well, they sort of morphed into the model shows that are held there now. You’re right about the prices Andy, I remember turning down two boxed Spitfire gunsights for £25.00, can’t remember if that was each or the pair. Either way, I wasn’t going to be ripped off like that!!

I have just commented on The Red Baron in a thread on the historic forum. As films go it’s up there with Braveheart for historical accuracy.

Well. I watched The Red Baron yesterday afternoon, what a load of cr@p! 633 and Mosquito squadron are classics worthy of oscars compared to this rubbish. Anyone else seen this? Apparently The Baron and Roy Brown met up for a chat in a field!

I work in Bridgwater, just down the motorway from where it happened. We had horrendous weather yesterday, lots of rain leading to flash flooding and part of the town wall along the river Parrett gave way leading to problems with flooding in town. The rain was followed by heavy fog all around the area. I went outside around the time it happened and the fog was really thick, visibility about 15 yards under our village street lighting. I personally think the firework distraction theory is is misleading as it was so foggy I dont think they would have shown up much. It was more likely the fog and surface water. At the end of the day at least seven people have lost their lives are the toll is expected to rise, there are still vehicles to examine that had people inside them. The cause won’t matter to them. My wife’s cousin is a nurse at Yeovil hospital. They had over thirty injured taken there for treatment. They put their emergency training and plans into action and things worked as smoothly as they possibly could for the circumstances. Thankfully most of the injured have been discharged and the rest are stable. Musgrove Park hospital in Taunton took the more seriously injured as it is nearer. I am selfishly hoping that no-one I know or work with has been involved or lost anyone.
My thoughts are with the families of those involved.
