Don’t know about Saudi AMRAAM status but they don’t use ASRAAM as far as I know. They decided on IRIS-T for their Typhoon squadrons.

Oh , thanks…i assumed that since there seems to be a fair amount of Saudi Typhoons pics taken in UK sporting ASRAAMs, then that must be their WVR weapon …:)

Pardon my ignorance , but what BVR weapons do Saudi Typhoons carry ? Were they allowed to purchase AMRAAMs? I’ve never seen them armed with anything but ASRAAMs so far…thanks.:)

SINCE the Falklands.:) And B-52s were not part of RAF. Probably that’s what BBC was trying to say , longest combat mission flown by the RAF , since the Falkands.

Reading in other places , i don’t know if true or not , but it’s claimed that the yanks took leadership of the “Operation Dawn” ( presumably the attack on Lybia) , from the french …and they will give it back ( the leadership ) in few days ( ?)
That’s what is claimed, i dont have any links or anything…

    LARAF vs the world

It seems that, based on recent news , it’s possible we might have some form of air conflict over Lybia. Forget about the political side, let’s talk about stuff belonging here, air power.

So …what kind of SAMs Lybia have ? Igla-S i see mentioned elsewhere. Other than that i assume legacy soviet systems , right ( S-75/125/200/Osa-AKM(?) , SPAAGs , MANPADS etc )

    It seems they have a limited number of Mirage F1s ( Magic-1/R-530/did thye got any Super-530F?), Mig-23MLDs( R-24/R-60) , Mig-21bis( R-60/R-13M/R-3R/Magic?), maybe some Mig-25PD(E) ( R-40/R-60), those with IRST , SPO-15, KDS-155 CHFL etc.

Suposing some form of air conflict will start , realistically speaking what chances and especially what tactics against obviously a totally superior “Coalition” air power does the LARAF would have / use while assuming they’ll try to do what any airforce is suposed to do regardless of the side they’re on.

    🙂

If i’m correct , the rumour is that the first ( 50-1) prototype broke the sound barrier , and it happened sometime in the latter half of last month.

Isn’t this strange how quickly friends turns to enemies ? Wasn’t France repairing Gaddafi’s Mirage F1s recently ? Weren’t they showcasing Rafales for Gaddafi at LAVEX ? Wasn’t US allowing their Hercules’s to be refurbished ? Wasn’t there talk of lybian-west relationship “improving “, the yanks took Lybia of the list of “terrorist ” states etc …

Can’t figure out what the h*** the french and british try to do (Suez 1956 anyone?). Surprised to see the yanks actually ( at least for now ) backing down from bombing someone…

Oh and yeah , let me know when BBC brings “breaking news” about the UN voting to impose a no-fly-zone over Bahrain , Saudi Arabia etc . ( oh i forgot , in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia , it must be Iran’s hand )

    Hypocrisy at it’s best. 🙁

I’ve actually watched that hearing yesterday , well bar the last 10 minutes or so (out of 125-just too boring to endure it all:p), and yes , someone there mentioned something about 2018m, regarding F-35. ( unfortunately i’m not 100% sure if it was refering to IOC or not …bad memory)

But i asume the vid is still there so if anyone wants to go thru it again…:D

The most intereting bit i remember is the chairman saying clearly that GAO has beem pretty much on the spot their estimates and predictions.:)( even if they have been largely ignored )

So …what’s GAO’s predictions for the evolution of this program in the next few years ? Its more likley they will probably be right , than wrong.

VLBB: Vertical lift bring back to be increased by either uprating the propulsion system or lightening the aircraft, or a combination of both.

Hmm…so how exactly are they going to “lighten the aircraft” or” upgrading” the propulsion, or both … Isn’t this a major redesign ? Wasn’t the F-35B at the limits ( to still satisfy the requirements ) of weight & payload ?

Hm…weird. Why is KNAAPO repeating the news about T-50-2s first flight ? ( previous entry regarding this first flight is from march 3rd, couple of lines down) Oh well.

Is 50-2 still in the paint shop , or she’s already out? 🙂
And how many flights for 50-1 to date, 41?
    Thanks.
