I did some looking around regarding this weight issue …as we know the F-22 is quite a bit smaller than a legacy Su-27 , BUT according to the specs from LOCKHEED , the F-22 is quite alot heavier! (especially regarding empty weight , and normal take-off weight with full internal fuel +AAMs)

Even the recent Su-35 is a bit lighter than the F-22, and the Su-35 has more fuel than F-22 , and offcourse , bigger legs. What makes the F-22 heavy , is the compact , chunky construction , and offcourse the trade-off for stealth , including those big heavy flat TVC nozzles…

Now lets look at the T-50 …it is a bit smaller than Su-27/35, indeed , it is also slightly larger than the F-22 , but also slimmer, and off course it has the smaller more efficient rear flight surfaces which help reduce weight ,the reportedly advanced construction of the airframe and so on .

I know the trend has always been to pack as much stuff as possible within a given airframe-see F-22 above- ( hence , more weight) , but even so,we can speculate that a mature T-50/Su-50( remember, it is SMALLER than the Flanker) can still be lighter than F-22 , even if it will equal the weight of a Su-35 for instance…

We will see for sure later on i guess …my 2 cents.

    A very interesting clip here…

    http://rutube.ru/tracks/3340831.html?v=f6295d73a736dba8284290888faac6e7

If accurate , imho that explains the quite remarcable flying display from yesterday ,done WITHOUT afterburner …the plane is a bit lighter than thought (17 500kg), and i assume ( i can be wrong offcourse) that the 30610 Kg figure for the “in-flight weight” refers to the aircraft with full internal fuel + internal AAMs…same for the F-22.

It looks like T-50 beats F-22 hands downs at the airframe performance chapter ( including supercruise???),and range, boy that thing has legs or what … (oh ,and offcourse , morale!:D)

Wow! One thing i find pretty cool( i cant find another word ), is that they got the first ( almost invaluable)prototype to do some nice aerobatics just for Putin! That is seriously great…the question is , does Mr. Putin likes it ??? Because if he does , the planned 2012 decission to go ahead with production would be just a formality , innit ?

“It will be a machine superior to our main competitor, the F-22, in maneuverability, armament and range,” Putin said.

That means inferior in avionics, stealth, SC capability. So far it looks as the machine is everything we have expected.

I wouldnt expect Putin to launch himself into a detailed technical comparison with the F-22 , the way i see it he’s saying the T-50 will be better , the parameters he choose to enforce his statement are arbitrary…but that phrase’s interpretation its up to each individual…
And another cool detail , that meens everyone living in that village next to the runway can see all the T-50s moves from their windows ? Hey , i wanna move there! 😀 ( one must wonder how many of that village’s inhabitants are actually russian , and real villagers! :diablo:)

Is it me , or the attention of the russian leadership for a combat aircraft , as seen for the PAK-FA , is unprecedented in the last 20 years ? If i recall correctly there was a press conference right after the first flight , then few weeks later Putin saw T-50-0, and he was presented with the second flight video, and now another “inspection”…

Regarding the upgrades , dont forget the Ukrainian Mig-29MU1, aparently the first machines were delivered early this year, it has upgraded radar (N-019U2), and an updated cockpit …

Also the well known Belarussian Mig-29BMs aswell ,which adds N-019P radar , improved avionics, new weapons cleared, plus IFR…

I dont know exactly how many of these upgraded birds were/will be procured , but imo they’re getting quite close to the capabilities of the Mig-29SMT 9.17( N-019MP equiped variant), which i guess its not bad at all…

Speaking of which , what are the russians doing about the legacy Mig-29s upgrade ? There’s an interesting article , admitedly from 2004 , stating that they were interested then in upgrading most of their 9.13s( and UB) to a standard similar to the N-019MP equipped SMT ( SM2 ? ), with avionics supplied by Ruskaya Avionika having considerable commonality with Su-30MKK ( no mention of IFR tho )…any news on this upgrade as of recently ?

(IMO such an upgrade would make perfect sense ,the Su-27 , Su-25 ,Su-24 , Mig-31 all had /have /will have a conservative, cost effective yet sound upgrade ,rather than a “deep” one… )

    Thanks .

So either Sukhoi is playing elaborate games with us or the image is real…

Imho i wouldnt think Sukhoi would waste their time folling around with the minds of some folks on a forum , is it ? They have far more important things to do right now …;)

That being said , i read somewhere that the rumour is the guy who took and leaked the picture was sacked right away , and there was an internal investigation … Only Pogo knows the truth.

One thing i have to say about all this mess…if it is true that the israeli commados were attacked with knifes bats and whatnot ,why they didnt shoot at the legs ? They were never shot at . Why did they shoot to kill ?

But me i would take whatever the israelis have to say with a grain of salt . They were very good at deceiving , thats for sure.

I still think the aid convoy was well-intended ,even if to deliver a message, as despite what the israelis say , the situation in Gaza is appaling , i meen me and you here in the west live very well in our nice houses , driving nice cars and enjoying nice luxuries( like computers ) , but those folks in Gaza actually dont have what to eat and dont have where to live ( after the IAF bombed them) because of the israeli blockade. Do any of you would like to live in Gaza now ?

Oh and i see some folks invariably throw the antisemitism coin around . Yeah right , the whole world is a big conspiracy against the poor jews , bla bla bla …what a load. Get real folks.

The fact that fully justified and real condemnation is made regarding what the israelis are doing in Gaza and Palestine doenst meen that those peoples are the mean evil antisemites. It meens that there is actually something wrong whit what the israelis do.

I see that the commandos that killed the peoples from Marmara are up for medals , funny i would think of a court martial and jail. Unfortunately , i doubt the israelis would really be facing consequences for what they did , because the big US brother is watching them . Just like they do with the nukes .Gotta love double standards…

Oh and again , no , what i said above does not make me an antisemite, despite what some folks might think , or want to think . I just hate human hypocrisy , thats all .

I hope my post here is not over the top …if so sorry , just tried to write down what i think …

Speaking of the T-50KNS…some peoples think that its indeed the KNS the aircraft shown in the last few seconds of the high-speed taxi clip …( and even AFM and probably others say the same )
    http://www.paralay.com/pakfasu/506.jpg

Now i have watched that vid over and over again at very low speed , and maby my eyesight tricks me , but i think its not KNS the aircraft shown in the last few seconds …i think the beaver-tail seems to be looking different because of the light and the angle…i think its the same T-50-1…

I have tried to take a screenshot of the aircraft taxiing prior to it being shown stopped with the chute still on , trying to get a caption from the same or very similar angle …Unfortunately i dont have any fancy programme to take a high quality screenshot , and the image is not terribly good , but still…

Does anyone sees what i’m seeing , or i’m wrong and i should need glasses …Thanks. ( btw , first csreenshot is the alleged KNS , second is T-50-1 taxiing)

    From Paralay …:)

    http://paralay.iboards.ru/download/file.php?style=12&id=10805&mode=view

If i get it right from the translation , it seems 51 flew again yesterday…would this be 3rd flight from LII ? Or was there another flight on the 28th, or even earlier , there are pics of the chase plane from the first flight ,the Su-24 bort 40 , taken on the 25th -but i could be wrong. ( I remember there was something on Paralay about the radio-spotters missing “something” on the 28th …but again i could well be wrong with the meaning…

Russia to supply Su-30, Yak-130 planes to Algeria in 2011

Russia will supply Su-30 Flanker fighters and Yak-130 Mitten trainer/light attack jets to Algeria in 2011, the deputy head of the Russian Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation, Vyacheslav Dzirkalin, said.

“The delivery of Su-30s and Yak-130s [to Algeria] is due to begin next year, this is no military secret,” Dzirkalin said.

Algeria, Libya set to buy Russian Pantsir-S1 short-range air defense systems

Algeria and Libya are ready to buy Russian Pantsir-S1 short-range air defense systems, deputy head of the Russian Military-Technical Cooperation Service Vyacheslav Dzirkaln said on Wednesday.

“The new system has shown high efficiency. Algeria and Libya have shown interest. Syria has already bought these systems in the past,” Dzirkaln said, adding that other potential customers were likely to appear.

Earlier in March the Russian press said Algeria was planning to buy 40 Pantsir-S1s for $500 million.

Well at that price , if i would be some folk from the Pentagon i’d kick myself for sacrificing some aspects of the JSF’s performance ( notably airframe performance and stealth) in the initial SOR , for the sake of affordability, which seems to me now its moot.

IMO a JSF with a suprecruise speed of 1.4-1.5M , a max speed of M1.8+ , better manoeuvrability thru TVC and other little tweaks to the level of 4+ and 5th gen fighers , would have been a much more formidable player in the fighter world , especially on its own. (because imo , unlike US which will use F-22 to clear the way for the F-35, other countries will have to use the F-35 to both clear the way of oposing fighters AND do SEAD and other IADS elimination tasks in a hypothetical conflict, besides other countries wouldnt have the myriad of suport measures for their F-35s like the americans have …)

For other countries bar US ,F-35 is far too expensive for what it delivers …my 2 pence.
