Testing of F-35A with external pylons/ weapons started on Feb.16.

So how many external pylons/hardpoints the F-35 is suposed to have again, six under the wing plus one under fuselage? What is the underfuselage one suposed to carry? Is it a conformal one (gun or ECM pod only)? Thanks.:)

Regarding the “PAK-ShA” can it be actually that UCAV ( aka “the surprise”) we’re waiting for to be unveiled (hopefully soon)?

Who said anything about “repelling” dude? It’s obvious they don’t have a chance against “NATO”(US) militarily speaking. The question is how much damage they can do to a potential attacker?

I’ve just read above the post about the russian base in Tartus, thanks for that Mildave and Wanderelei. Wonder if the russians will just be sitting there if “NATO” attacks. Will “NATO” avoid bombing Tartus and Latakia all together?

Maybe the russians should ship a few batteries of S-300 to “protect their naval bases” there . That would curb the “let’s bomb Syria! “enthusiasm around some world capitals.

Here are my sources of the Pechora upgrade. But as for the KH31 I heard reports that Syrian AF received 100 of them of various seekers ranging from anti-radiation to anti-ship

Regarding the H-31A/P, if true they either had their MiG-29 modernized to be able to fire A-G guided munitions aswell ( to SM or SMT standard?), or maybe it’s for their Su-24s? Can the Su-24 use this missile without being upgraded? (syrian ones are probably Su-24MK)

Thanks Berkut. Hopefully we’ll have confirmation of S-5s first flight on Sukhoi’s or KnAAPO’s site soon.:)

Su-35S-3 has been painted for around a month now, but this is the first pics. FAP FAP FAP. 😀

Some great pics of north Su-27’s:

    And videos:

PS: Su-35S-4 is doing taxi tests.

Aparently, today the Su-35S-5 flew, piloted by (i assume) the same chap who flew S-3 (can’t spell his name!).

    http://forums.airbase.ru/2012/02/t70989,15–ispytaniya-su-35.9938.html

Now, i can’t really make out exactly what google translate says, but it seems they skipped the Su-35S-4 designation (bad memories of 904)? So S-5 is actually the fourth one ? Can any of our russian friends help out a bit please? Thanks.:)

All the possible results from that will not differ much from the Gulf Wars before. 😎

Of course. Will not differ much from the hundreds of thousands of peoples killed and millions grievously affected, whole countries destroyed, and their peoples abandoned into anarchy.
But all is cool( or 😎 , to copy you) , because it’s in the name of “democracy”. 😡

Anyway, footage of exercises including the Buk M2.

I was surprised when i learned (and saw- on the net obviously ) what the syrians have aswell. Buk-M2s are pretty much confirmed , footage of it was shown on Syrian TV . Also, retaliation wise , they have systems that not even Iraq or Lybia had , ie the Tochka (which is vastly more accurate than the ubiquitous Scuds, thus enabling robust retaliation against airfields , command headquarters etc within it’s range), and the Yakhont aswell.( so good luck to any naval strike force in the area)

It would be reasonable to assume that their IADS effectives would be ( proportionally) higher than iraqi’s in 1991, if only because of the more modern systems they have, all things being equal. It is also possible that their training is not exactly as “bad ” as portrayed in the western world , due to their “special” neighbour and their history, and that might weigh alot in the equation aswell.

While it is very clear that they do not stand a chance militarily if “NATO” ( read US) would go for an attack , their air defence is not something to be dealt with 8 Rafales, 8 Typhoons and 8 Super Hornets like in Lybia. ( numbers out of thin year , but you get the point). They will need overwhelming numbers (which of course meens a mostly US show).

It remain to be seen the effectives of their interceptor force, MiG-29s and MiG-23s primarily , and possibly MiG-25s aswell. Possibly they can use MiG-21s aswell for hit and run and decoy/luring missions, if they have been modernized somewhat (cuban MiG-21bis have been fitted with R-73s for instance). The MiG-23 and 29 have been aparently recently refurbished , and rumour is the MiG-29s have been upgraded to a similar standard to SMT. If competently flown they can be yet another serious nuissance to any force short of USAF elite (read F-22s)

So imho , while they can’t possibly stand a chance militarily against “NATO” and possibly Israel if they get involved aswell, they could cause considerable losses to this “coalition of democracy” or whatever they will call it.

Oh and so far i don’t think they have S-300s (which together with Iskander and modern interceptors -MiG-29Ms are long way away to be delivered-is something they badly need for reinforcing even more their deterence capacity).

Useless to add, an operation against Syria will very possibly blow up the whole region, with unquantifiable consequences.

LMFS – lightweight single- or two engine fighter, Indian AMCA can be an example of such proposal

Have you ever talked with anyone in the industry about what they think/ how they would feel about a possible russo-indian joint venture for AMCA? Ok it’s not enough money for LMFS , but if indians put some (or majority), and russians find some aswell, wouldn’t that be a very attractive complement for PAK-FA?

Heh, even i heard of that Zhirinovsky bloke .:p
Thanks for your insight from the inside, most interesting.
Can i pull your tongue about that E-721 again ? Is it indeed like the description on paralay, an aircraft not unlike J-20 ( canards, side intakes etc etc )?

seems that the same MiG guys have reached Mr.Rogozin recently
there was also PAK FA alternative developed at Sukhoi in 2005 that was thrown off in favor of Davidenko’s T-50
in summer of 2010 its author together with ‘alternative T-50 mafia’ have tried to push it again through Zhirinovsky that reportedly had forwarded their letter to Medvedev
they blamed existing T-50 as big mistake having structural problems due to rear weapons bay placement and downgraded specifications compared to Raptor and alternative PAK FA
last project, they say, has ‘right aerodynamics’ and abilities compared to Boeing’s NGAD/F-X

Hmm, i was thinking …would this “alternative” to Davidenko’s T-50 be the project with Raptor style bays ( ie two side, one centre)?
