I really should have mentioned ‘Memorial Flight’ too, it is a great magazine .
Unfortunately my assessment of the LLA has been clouded by how the subs are handled as I said earlier.
I actually welcome this move, the support the LLA has given the flight over the years is fantastic but i think a supporters club run directly from the BBMF is the way to go and long overdue.
They have the means to reach a wider audience and the know how, particularly if Yvonne Masters is involved.
I am sorry to say that the LLA’s admin in my short time and experience as a member has been very poor and the worst of any organisation I am a member of, particularly in this day and age.
Six Apache helicopters in formation just flew through Duxford and past my window 🙂

What was the reason for the flypast?……….not that you ever need a reason:p
I’ll have to search out that Dogfights episode, sounds great:cool:
Also must recommend to those interested in Col. Olds to watch his episode of “Dogfights” (S01E02 Air Ambush) where they use CG animation to tell his story. Col. Olds tells of his experiences in WWII including shooting down a Bf-109 while both of his P-38s engines were shut down. (He claims the only air-to-air kill while in “glide mode”.) And he also goes into great detail regarding his time in SEA flying Thunderchiefs and Phantoms and Operation Bolo. Straight from the horse’s mouth.
Colonel Olds never flew F-105s, he had a ‘interesting’ spell flying the Voodoo with my favourite old wing, the 81st TFW before he converted to the F-4.
RAF Bentwaters /Woodbridge:D……..and nearer the true meaning of the thread….Kenley and Biggin Hill.
Very sad news.
‘When thunder rolled’ is a fantastic book, utterly gripping as is ‘Palace Cobra’
I hate myself for doing it………but I started to read the ‘readers comments’ at the foot of the DT article……..why oh why do I do it?!
It proves that the Daily Mail and You Tube don’t have the monopoly on retarded oafs spouting ludicrous opinions:mad:
May the ‘yachtsman’ in particular be run over by a huge oil tanker!:diablo:
I’m really glad the pilot is ok and hope to see man and machine back in the air before too long.
Oooooh lovely……….I’m 25 minutes away!
Looking forward to this 😎
Who has been doing the test flying ?
I probably wouldn’t disagree with you, Mike J, although I am a little ‘close’ to this sale in certain respects – so I probably shouldn’t be saying that. However, if my number comes up, and the figure is big enough, then unsold it won’t be!
Out of interest, what do other forumites think would be an ideal lottery win total to realise a dream like this?
And The Sun:o
I have ordered the book from amazon 😎
Stephen Grey was sitting next to me at an airshow once while his P47 was flying and the commentator was saying how the pilot was ‘Hauling this massive brute of an aeroplane through the sky’ and Stephen told me he hates that sort of description because firstly it makes it sound dangerous and secondly the P47 is such a pussycat. He told me that of all his fighters the P47 was the one that could most likely be flown by an average PPL with tailwheel experience. He said that you only have to get it near to the ground with the wheels down and it will land.
Great quote, was the commentator Brendan O’Brien by any chance?
And the TFC fighter least likely to be flown safely by an average PPL?
The Corsair has to be a contender.
I enjoyed the Heroes of the Skies series………I’m afraid I have to agree about Lord Ashtray though.
Very sad news, I love his poem on the wall at Capel le Ferne.
Many thanks to all for the beautiful Spit XIX shots……..I’m in love with this particular mark of Spitfire at the mo:cool:
