Despicable. Was at the Bomber Command Memorial Saturday afternoon and even a bunch of Bayern Munich fans paused just to have their picture taken in front of the memorial and carried on their merry way.
I’d like to praise the German supporters of both sides for the fantastic atmosphere all over the West End on Saturday.
That said, we know what the problem is currently in the UK and so do the Russian media judging by their comments in the wake of last weeks events.
Back to the memorial in Green Park, I’m sure it has CCTV, but whether they will be any use in this particular case i don’t know.
Great photos as ever, really looking forward to ‘The Eagle Squadron’ and looking forward to the BBMF hoping PS 915 will give me the kick I need to start the 1/48 Airfix. Spit 19 soon:eagerness:
Full details of the Eagle Squadron formation – including aircraft histories, pilot details and an overview of the weekend’s plans – can be found in the Global Aviation Resource profile below. This should be pretty special…
IWM don’t want the flypast timings published in the piece itself, but the NOTAMS posted in this thread should give a good indication of where you want to be and when. Here’s hoping for blue skies, sun, and excellent, safe flying all weekend.
An absolutely superb article, thank you for the link.
Yep top job by the BBC tonight. Also a presenter with an understanding of history not just someone allocated for the day.
Remembering all sides tonight. The crews who did an outstanding job, those that didn’t return, the victims, the dog. Not forgetting the remaining crew who still take the time to talk to us and be interviewed again and again and likely answering the same questions.
Glass raised
Looking forward to catching up with this on the iplayer, saw Dan Snow criticised on another forum and i can’t help agreeing, just can’t take to the man.
Would have liked someone like James Holland fronting it.
‘Princess Elizabeth’ is the best looking high back…………until someone paints one as ‘Salem Representative’:eagerness:
‘Boise Bee’ looks great too.
Looking forward to seeing this on completion, nice choice.
Fantastic selection of photos of Princess Liz, especially for any modellers watching.
Thanks to all for posting them.
The Fighter Collection are bringing “Miss Velma” and “SNAFU” to Shoreham Airshow this year!: http://www.shorehamairshow.co.uk/news/2013/04/legends-of-the-8th-air-force/
Nice addition, I personally haven’t seen a TFC aircraft display away from Duxford for a while.
That’s a great shame, but for work I would have loved to have attended.
The Aerosuperbatics team are amongst the most professional on the air show circuit, and I love the way those Stearman are displayed………and yes, the girls are gorgeous and talented and I’m not afraid to admit it.
PZ does indeed look gorgeous, well done to everyone involved.
Great photos too.
Believe me, the NMUSAF are fully aware of us at Bentwaters, especially over the past year or so. The current Director of the NMUSAF is an ex-81st TFW Hog driver!
We had a lot of help from the guys at Spang in trying to acquire one of the BDRT airframes for us. They were happy to help us. Guess who stopped it all though?!!!!Graham
Not Barack O?
Thank you, I stand corrected.
It’s a concern that I spotted a couple of those errors whilst on an initial casual first browse through.
How many more on closer inspection?
Just as an observation – these ate the BBMF stats for their Facebook page today : “13,764 likes ยท 2,639 talking about this”
This is the type of footprint the BBMF need if they are to continue to occupy a place in the nations thoughts for future generations and be agile enough to take on fresh ideas via things like social media.
With ever increasing pressure to curb government spending and for Whitehall to “think the unthinkable” – the BBMF have to be ready to face what ever challenges are thrown at them.
Could they end up being operated like the RN Historic Flight as a separate organization ?
Can they justify having all those Spitfires ?
Whatever the future brings – times are likely to become more challenging – not less.
I applaud the LLA for all they’ve done to assist the BBMF thus far and at the same time I think I can see why the BBMF now feel it’s time to stand alone and reshape how they are perceived by the general public.
Just my 50 pence worth ….. ๐
As an aside, it makes me wonder that if ‘Just Jane’ ever returned to the air this would not go unnoticed by any future government and could put the BBMF under scrutiny.
“Do we need 2 flying Lancs?” They would most likely say in Whitehall.
Back on thread, I am genuinely saddened to see how the LLA chairman has been treated.
Excellent guide to the airfields, but what’s with the profiles?
A “Blue” Lou IV? OK, that’s open for debate in a few circles still but the Mustang profile on P28??
Not only is it not 78th FG but it’s not even 8TH USAAF. It’s not even ETO!
Hmmm, just spotted that too, and the wrongly captioned A-10 pic on page 94.
Think the Mustang confusion arose from the fact that two ETO units shared squadron codes with two MTO units.
The 31st FG shared the 78th FG codes………..playing devils advocate, maybe the P-51 on page 28 had previously served with the 31st?:dev2:
Love the BBMF’s Hurri in Tucks markings.
Great photos by the way, what a catch:cool:
