Couldn’t agree more….just leave it as is, not washed, not tarted up. Aircraft aren’t naturally clean, they get in an awful state and the Harrier will look all the better for it. They have a clean GR3 in AirSpace anyway….
Another vote for leaving the jet as it is, the FAA museum are leaving ZD433 as it was when it finished its service.
Back to 506, I’m assuming it has gone with the others to the USMC?

Its a shame the 352nd FG can’t live on today as a Fighter Wing proper, they certainly have a proud history.
The blue nose looks better on the P-51 though.

Very sad news indeed, made all the worse by the fact that the Air Fair was cancelled in his final years .
I too was introduced to aviation by the Biggin Hill Air Fairs.
I very much hope the show comes back one day as a tribute…….a proper show, not a laughable ‘fun day’ .

Talking of the Duxford F105… I took this photo of it a couple of week ago at Krakow.
Hey nice pic, and a great sight, thanks for posting.
If only Duxford had been in a position to do that.
Some of the AAM rumours raised eyebrows with me, if they are ever crazy enough to get rid of the A-10 (not mentioned in the earlier post I know) there is a very nice little museum at Bentwaters that will give it a home;)
It has disappeared at the moment. The take off times were not all listed so perhaps the spreadsheet is being updated.
mmitch.
I was only able to get a blank spreadsheet originally, I have had probs with Adobe and was using a free file opener to access the dates last year, but even that doesnt work now.
Guess I’ll have to wait for my LLA list to arrive.
Its a shame the RAF couldnt have given the girl a bit of dignity and maybe released a statement saying she was temporarily grounded after a medical problem………that said, there is always a ‘source close to the team’ who would spill the beans for the right price to the press.
Maybe the RAF and Kirsty thought it best to be up front about the situation.
The comments on the tabloid websites vere from the truly shocking to the absurd, one retard was demanding to know ‘why her name has changed’………..I know marriages are on the decline, but some have clearly not heard of matrimony!
With the prevalence of social engineering and political correctness in the Armed Forces, could it be that Kirsty Stewart was there as the token woman?
That must be the suspicion.I remember that a woman, albeit a very fit one, was allegedly massaged thru the rigorous routine necessary to gain the award of a Commando Green beret. This gave rise to much ill feeling.
Irrespective, we all wish her well and safe flying to the Arrows.
John Green
Its a shame, I really wanted Kirsty to get through her three years, because any mishap or situation like this resignation was always going to result in people alluding to her gender.
I truly believe that some organisations such as the RAF are beyond the reach of the grubby PC brigade so prevalent during the gimmicky Blair years.
Kirsty earned her place on the team, and if she has taken the decision herself it shows her as the thorough pro she is.
She was still active with the Reds up to Feb 1st, an AOL user commenting on the story had a link to a photo article he did during a visit to RAF Scampton that day.
Maybe she has struggled in training since then.
Sad to read BBC report that RAF Red Arrow display team will reduce to 7 aircraft for 2012 season.
Sad too to hear that Flt Lt Kirsty Stewart is leaving the team.A true professional and very good person.
I echo those sentiments.
It would appear that the team will revert to a 9 ship for flypasts only.
Looks like one of the team are staying on for a fourth year, and they have drafted in a former member after a staff tour .
I usually have several books on the go…….
‘Once they were eagles:The Men of the Black Sheep Squadron’ by Frank Walton
‘The Jolly Rogers’ by Tom Blackburn
‘Wings on my sleeve’ by Winkle Brown
And just starting ‘Half a wing, three engines and a prayer’ by Brian O’Neill
Very nice – although I was distracted by the ‘photoshoot’ video link on the right!
😀 I must admit I succumbed to ‘Miss Victoria’s’ charms……….at the risk of incurring the wrath of feminists everywhere, I do think scantily clad models and warbirds go together beautifully…….in an artistic way of course.
Was the ‘stang vid any good by the way?:diablo:
I agree with the plaudits given above..and would add that, of the current display pilots, I think Alistair Kay has some of the Hanna stardust about him.
You beat me to it!
I find that all the pilots associated with the OFMC fly the ‘Hanna way’
I’d like to single out Nigel Lamb for praise, after Ray passed away, Nigel flew MH434 in the traditional closing slot of the Biggin Hill Air Fair (with the exception of one year)
It was as if Ray was back again, complete with the ‘valley salute’.
