Absolutely gorgeous and anything but a ‘f**k up’!
I was sat with my copy of ‘Enemy Coast Ahead’ when I looked up at the clock……..
They are indeed and thank you very much for posting them.

BTW, what was the problem with Olds’ putting this formation together? I seem to remember the commentator at the time mentioning that he was off to SE Asia soon after. In his autobiography Olds states the reasons for the performance, for which he didn’t get permission, were to get him off the promotion list for General. See attached.
It worked and he got chewed out. He was sent to Shaw and, two months later he was off to the 8th TFW at Ubon.If you get the chance read the memoirs. They are worth it.
The memoirs are indeed superb so far……(I am at the P-51 stage of Robins career) it is like the great man is right there telling you the stories himself.
I noticed the date on the BBMF Flying Display list and wondered what it was doing……….the 19th was the day of my first cross channel flight.
A pleasantly eerie experience for you Andy, I look forward to the book.
Excellent programme and flying , there are some great characters at Buffalo Airways…….that Prof was mighty irritating though!

I’m sure you also be pleased to hear that, while everyone was watching the Royal wedding, a lone P-51D Mustang paid tribute to the fallen airmen and the ghosts of Bodney aerodrome by performing some flypasts and rolls overhead the long deserted airfield..
‘Janie’ or ‘Marinell’?:)
Beautiful, great to see a P-51 wearing the markings of one of the lesser known units of the Eighth.
There is a promising looking series starting on the ‘very Disco’ channel tomorrow filmed during HMS Ark Royals last cruise, should include some nice Harrier stuff (tissues at the ready):(
Anyone know why Rob Davies is selling? Must admit, this one caught me unawares, never thought I’d see BBD leave.
ok cheers fella’s, the fun starts now finding such things, e-b** here i come !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a timely thread because the other day I was studying a photo in ‘Phoenix Squadron’ of a Gannet launching and noticed the ‘strop’ falling away, and I wondered what became of it.
Hi
Well at least the spanish, italians and US still have their versions, so some can still be seen flying.
cheers jerry
Very true, and the Spanish and Italians arent exactly awash with cash themselves, yet they still operate this fine aircraft.
Great news, is that ‘Smithy’ at the helm?
The canoes are basically the aircraft fuselage sans all major components i.e fin tailplane wing engine etc -basically the bare fuse. Work on the basis of no future for the aircraft that are that stripped as some like ZD323 was slotted into the Jump line at the end but hadnt flown for years and now I guess never will . Some of the canoes left I am sure will be some of the aborted JUMP aircraft that were destined to be upgraded but stopped work on when Cottesmore closure was announced last year.
Thanks for that David, my visit on Oct 7th was obviously pre SSDR and that day the BAe staff/RAF personnel were still hard at work on inspections, rebuilds right through to the GR9 awaiting its test flight at the end of the hangar.
When I was lucky enough to get on the visit, I had no idea of the significance then, but what an afternoon it was.
I’m really glad you guys are more optimistic than me, after , personally , a great airshow/aviation year in 2010, 2011 looks a bit dreary, my local most favourite show inexplicably destroyed (Biggin Hill) and no Harrier.
I’m sure my mood will lighten though.
