    Hi Guys,

As for someone who is new to this board, all I ask is lets try to keep it nice.

The reason I started this thread was to see if anyone out their had heard anything about another version of Band of Brothers.

Not by the same author but what I understand Mr. Hanks had lookinto taking a diary or combat logs and turning it into a seroius like Band.

Besides if we want to get Tech. about who won the war and stuff give me an e-mail off line and I’ll explain it to you.

The BoB pilots that was lost was,

Don Lanzo the Spanish pilot was Killed on Jan. 20 1968 near Tablada Airfield. He was a big war Hero in Spain fought in Russia during the War.

In Zeppelin their were four deaths One of the SE% collied with the production Helicopter over Dublin Bay in the fall of 1970 killing the SE5 pilot and the tree people on the Chopper.

In Tora Tora Tora their were two deaths both invovling the Vals. the first killed Jack Canary who at the time was the Director of Air Ops. for the movie. The second one was when one of the Vals. came apart over Pearl harbor during a simulated dive-bombing run. Also during the movie one of the P-40 replica’s goes out of control and smash’s into the Petrol Tank this is still in the Movie.

In Darling Lili their was’nt any deaths but one of the stunt pilots ended up in the Hospital for six months when the SE5 he was flying flipped over and cart-wheeled.

    Hope this helps out some

    Hey Guys,

I think we are missing something here. The Corsairs did not go into a dive they dropped the Nap. at level flight so dumping the gear allowed them to slow down.

I guess I should have pointed that out in the beginning.

    Moggy,

When the USMAC pilots try to slow down to drop the Nap. tubs they would experiance a slow wing stall which if not caught would cause you to fall off to your left or right, No prob. if your at height but when you were comming in at 1000 AGL this isn’t good cause one to become part of Terra Ferma. So some bright pilot came up with the idea of approaching at Carrier land speed with everything hanging well the rest is as they say history.

I have some great photo’s of both USMAC and FAA/RN guys dropping Nap on targets.

You can’nt miss us we will be the ones that look like a bunch a Hil-Billys.

Archer, it was moved to QAM about three years ago, NEAM need room and the idoits at Pensacolo did’nt want it back. So QAM took.

    Hi,

The use of the Landing Gear as DiveBrakes came out of trying to get Napalm on Jap. targets. In close air ground support in the Island Camp. Corsair pilots were slowing down to much causing a stall coundition when they drop their tanks. Some pilot came up with the idea of lets try it with the Gear down.

No Corsair was ever build with a Dive brake, one of the many things that went into designing the SkyRaider came out of the lessons of the Corsair in the Pacific. Thats why they had dive brakes incorputed into their design.

A quick question on CAA flight ops.

Have they change if so is that why alot of the UK flyers are leaving the UK for better Flying Skys?

YAk11 your right yor are getting some progects but they are PROGECTS not flyers. I bet in due time they will be traveling across that big pond and return to the States except the Gannet of course you all can keep it.What Drugs were the designers on when they came up with that Beast:p .

Well any way its good to see some new blood he in the States.

Long Live The Republic of Maine:D 😀 😀

    Look at the Corsair Thread

    Hi All,

Ifd anyone wants to see hat happens to Corsair after they have sat in Salt Water for 60 Years look at the Corsair thread. These parts end up here in the States on the West Coast .

They are not RNZAF aircraft, they come from either the 1841 or 1842 SQuadron we could never get the exact serial ##s.

NI Corsairs and South Pacif Dumps

    Hi All,

On the subgect of the NI Corsairs, I visit both of these wrecks in the late 90s. Both are complete basket cases I talk with the NI Gov about salavge rights its alot easier to rights in the UK then it is here in the States. The proplem with Corsairs are the Main Spar since both of these a/c were involved with a hard landing and have been sitting in salt water the main spar is all but junk. The cost to have a new one build is 2 million US and up. That is why their are a # of Corsair projects that have’nt been brought back to Air Worthy status.

As for the Far East Dumps 3 quaters of the Corsairs that Trained here in the States went to ther Pacific for Air Ground support all but two of these Squadrons dump their load of Corsairs and TBMs before they came back to the UK. Their is the big dump site off Aussie land plus their is another off of India Jagan could give us some more info on this.
