Great shots from the local. There are one or two of the A330’S that have the red Belly. I know for a fact the first A330 they bought has it.

With Regards to the choice of aircraft.

I think the A330 was the logical choice for the start of the route we had not idea how the route would pan out. All the other Uk airports had the A330 at the start of there routes. Thankfully it has been a huge sucess it has brought loads to the North and proved to the sceptics that NCL could handle a Long Hual Carrier. I cant Believe the route has been running for a year already! Give it another year or 2 and we’ll see the 777 graceing stand 30 at NCL!

Is this the same Ryanair that have cancelled countless Edinburgh flights because Boeing couldn’t deliver 2 new 737’s on time ?

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/7607633.stm

Aye it must be! Although i think the late deliverys are down to strike action by Boeing Factory workers.

Apparently the 2 738s been used are the standby aircraft based at STN.

Apparently the CAA have Borrowed a 742 from Hellinic *sp* Imperial to help with the back log!

Very sad indeed…………………….here are two photos from this morning around 05:30am notice that MA have put vehicles behind the aircraft as to stop them departing (a bit harsh) and the crew’s had their id’s removed and were escorted off the airport.

Same thing happend at NCL last night when the 738 arrived back. Aircraft now parked remote sealed up and blocked in by a snow Plow!

Not a nice situation at all for all involved!

I have heard that Ryan Air have offered 2 738’s for upto 2 weeks to get passengers home! Also hearing that BMI have offered and aircraft.

My thoughts go out to all XL staff and Pax!

Thanks for that Graeme – most useful!

Well I used to love listening to it as a kid on my grandad’s old Wireless! But things have changed since then. Thanks for the link, I may have to invest 😀

Just wondering, how come NCL also has the code EGNT? What does it stand for? Cheers!

EGNT is i think Newcastle airports IATA designation. I could be wrong how ever!

Thanks for that. It’s next Tuesday morning that I arrive, i’m on the red eye 05.55 flight from Newcastle. Oh the joys of getting up at 4am 🙁

I will have to have a better look, perhaps last time I was just unlucky. I have a 70-300mm lens so should be able to get some half decent shots…

You should Try getting up at 2.30am to check that flight in! :diablo:

I see it take off or land just about every day! :diablo:

Theres just something about EK’s A330’s! I recall the first day of the service i aswell as most of the airport watched the first flight depart amazeing sight we almost thought it wouldn’t make it off the ground.

I can honestly say that this service has done wonders for the Airport and the North East as a whole.

With regards to the 777, I think NCL could handle one in a full passenger carrying role but only just! i think were limited by our runway! It is been extended over the winter so maybe that will give us something to work with!

We have taken 777’s in the past from BA but never operating a full flight out. The biggest aircraft to ever do a passenger aircraft to operate a flight out of NCL over the past few years has been the 747.

Interesting! Do you know if the same plane destined for Dominican Republic does the same?

    No that aircraft goes direct!

The TOM Cancun is the only flight from NCL that stops of at MAN for Fuel.
The MON Cancun can make it direct.
Later in the season when i suspect the loads will be lighter maybe the TOM will go Direct.

747s can operate from NCL but with Restrictions, our runway is only 2,500 meters long so they have to take less weight for take off.

The TOM 763 to Cancun on mondays has to go down to MAN after NCL for fuel, because if it was fully fueled for the trip at NCL it would not take off in time.

Runway is getting extended over the winter which means the airport will be closed after 23.00 hopefully this will allow EK to get 777 in.

Ok The Kuwaiti A310 arrived in this afternoon shes here to pick up some very expensive cargo on Behalf of the Kuwaiti goverment. Highly doubt it will be here in the morning they dont tend to stick around long considering the sheer value of what she is carrying.

The 2 King Air types you speak of are either from Farnair or Aero Nova, Operating the Fed Ex Feeder service. Dont quite know why they dont get parked on the cargo ramp as there is nowt there during the day but the MMG Fokker 50.

Next month marks one year of EK flying to Newcastle. This time last year the Royals from Dubai were over in realition to the flights all starting. Dont know if there coming back over to mark it. Members of the family have been over a few times since but just useing there 737 BBJ’s.

Fantastic set of Images as ever PMN!

Great to see the Monarch A330’s back in service! They both went tech last weekend which made things rather interesting at NCL!
