The fact that he DID lie to the general public.

Which bit of ‘he’s a politician’ are you having trouble with, Jim? 😉

I can’t improve on Stuart H and J. Boyle. Their comments perfectly summarise the idiocies and inconsistencies of the PC brigade.

I’ll certainly agree that their comments feature idiocies and inconsistencies, but yet again you seem to have mistaken ranting and chest-thumping for cogent factual argument. Frankly, I begin to wonder whether you understand that there’s a difference at all, let alone what the difference actually is.

Labels (eg, ‘PC Brigade’, ‘hater’) are a lazy mind’s substitute for evidence and reasoning, and a poor substitute at that.

    Good night, all.

I’m sorry, John, but that’s clearly based on nothing more than the same old prejudices that you’ve shown so often in the past.

Just to take one aspect of your discourse: You claim that ‘PC or political correctness, is the collective term used by those who are of the politically liberal left wing.’

However, the term is quite clearly most often used by those on the political right to describe ideas and actions that they perceive to be symptomatic of the ‘loony left’ (for want of a better phrase).

You are, therefore, demonstrably at odds with actuality once again.

You also claim that ‘…we get to the point that we cannot express reservations about excessive immigration, for example, without incurring accusations of bigotry and racism‘.

Yet such reservations are widely and frequently expressed – in here and in the wider world – without attracting the opprobrium that you describe in such heart-rending fashion.

Being faced with dissenting opinions and being expected to back your own position up with factual evidence is not any form of oppression or censorship.

That is how debate – as opposed to tub-thumping ranting – actually works.

Are you afraid of honest, robust debate, John? Do you consider it to be ‘PC gone mad’?

The “opinions and ideas” of which you speak.

To repeat the question: which ideas and opinions? Can you be specific?

Or can you accept that, very much like ‘haters’, ‘PC Brigade’ is just a catch-all term for whoever it is one is disagreeing with at any given moment?

I’m glad that we agree that it isn’t a left/right issue, though.

……it displays a certain mindset where ‘right-minded’ PC people claim the moral high ground in an attempt to make any opposition seem subversive and immoral.

Not really. Politicians and pundits of all types and from all nations have been doing exactly that for centuries.

He was a politician who lied. But that should not be a reason for tarring all politicians with the same brush.

Q: How can you tell when a politician is lying?

    A: Their lips move.

    Ithangyow………. 😀

Perhaps you’re taking me a bit too literally…it doen’t have a membership roster or meet weekly at the Women’s Institute meeting room, but there is a slice of the population that really does embrace those “ideals“.

But which ‘ideals’? Is there a list somewhere?

Otherwise, ‘PC’ is no more than a portmanteau term for opinions and ideas with which some individuals (usually, but not exclusively, on the right of the political spectrum) disagree.
