That makes a lot of sense, Kev. My father was an atheist but would never lay a finger on me or my brother. He simply did not believe that discipline needed physical force. We grew up respecting and loving him in equal measure. My mother, on the hand, never felt the odd slap now and then did anything but good. As it happened it probably did neither good nor ill, but it didn’t enhance our respect for her. My mother was a believer and an occasional churchgoer. She certainly saw herself as a Christian.
Having flirted with Christianity for a while my brother and I both ended up as atheists.
