so the sparrow and bvr radar was mean to be useless???, comon its obvius that we are talking about defensive strategies and air superiority, in fact the occidental planes have that problem more that soviet by all those movable sams (sa6,sa10,sa3,etc) and AAA, you can use also offensive tactics at heigh, youre fast, your weapons have more range, and the ECM works better (remember at low heights the ecm signals keeps very confined)

Sens, seahawk, those arguments are ridiculous, those problems are solutionated by air-traffic controll, in an decarated war it dont matters that visual identification, again the floggers should stay at height launching radar aams or diving over enemy aircrafts attacking with IRST-missiles, and climb again.

In the multiple dogfight of the 70s/80s of limited value, when the rules of engagement demanded visual indification first

theres not point to that afgument in a war, the aim7-amraan capacity isnt for an truly medium long range bvr interception or against low level targets

    some questions…

    -the proyect is french-russian????
-there are kamov designs without that double helix????
-the double helix is more efficient that the use of conventional rotor with longer blades???(maybe by the use of more lift surfaces without increasing blade turbulence???)

wellllll, thef16 never was an air superiority fighter, i was an small low level bomber , if the americans would needed an small figther they would chose the f17.

its obvius that the mig23 bvr and high altitude engine performance would give troubles to the F-16s,i think that is obvius that above 5000-6000mts both planes have similar sustained turn , maybe an dogfight tactic would be an fast dive over the falcons form height (12-15kms) -like honchos korean tactics-, keeping high is always an advantage -if youre an good pilot-, add also the IRST with missiles, at such heigh the rockets have better range, the f16s must climb to reduce that advantage, bad idea, some people think that air-combat tactics are maverick-top gun pirouettes but that isnt the reality.

IIRC, there WAS an exercise in which F-16’s with AWACS faced MiG-23’s. The soviet fighters sneaked on the merrikans planes throught EOS (russian IRST) and “shot them down”.

interesting deathangel, could you tell me more details about that???,what tactics they used????

well with all respect that airsande plus report have poor credibility.

the performance at high altitude is an advantage on BVR combat (if you have the missiles and radar, of course), also almost all dogfights are at 10000-5000 mts, obviusly fighting against an f16 with a 23 below 5000mts is suicide, but a good pilot wont make such mistake

the M2000 is one of the best medium-high altitude fighter, yes it have relative high iduced drag, but thats compensted with the engine and relative unstable design, i dont think that the 23 could match the M2000 at heigh

This is a pretty old idea.
Remember when F-8s were the latest thing?

well, thats not an old idea, the first practical works about that started at the 70s, the f8 is an nasa prototipe, i think that the practical aplications started in the end 70s, but i dont know if was introduced on operative fighters (but that was discused for new proyects at that time), i know that the concept is aplicated on some civil planes, i dont know if the concept was aplicated into the 4th generation fighters.

Other pilots evaluate the Eagle’s maneuvering capabilities as more analogous to MiG-23MLD.”

in which conditions????, maybe at medium-high subsonic speeds (400-450 knots), and sustained turn at such speeds, but i doubt that in low level vertical maneuvres

    The corner velocities of the two aircraft at “9G’s” are;
    F-15C -450 @ 25º
    Su-27 -393 @ 28º

wait, wait, wait, the f15c turn rate IS NOT 25º, the turn is near 21º, hell ,even janes (yes i have some janes books) in the mid-end 80s when they analysed the speculations of the su27, they said that the su27 turn was 17º sustained and 23º instantaneus  , and that cannot be matched by the west, that “25º” bornd when the su27 numbers get official, maybe that turn could be achieved pulling over-gs….or maybe propaganda, i dont know, but thats not the max operational turn, again i dont understand why the f16 is always understimated in dogfights when is compared with the f15 , ahh f15,f15,f15, the american pride    .

If you look at the corner velocities of American versus Russian aircraft, you will see for any set of parameters the corner velocity is higher for American aircraft than it is for Russian aircraft for comparative aircraft.

that means that the plane have better aerodynamics or lower inerce momentum, that “speed=succes” only works against low trained pilots, the corner speed is the lower limit, not the specific speed at 9gs that the plane can achieve, btw the s27 corner speed isnt near 320 knots??

i like the technological disscusion, comparing diferent tech solutions sometimes to the same problems that must face engienner teams arround the world, i dont understand the pasion to disscus such threads, we are talking about an invasion like to play warcraft or ats f22 pc games… i mean there lives, families, childs, women and men involved.

    only that….
