The commentary was by actor Jon Rollason, who died a year ago tomorrow.
I give up on this pedantic forum…
You stuck it for such a long time, but it’s definitely getting worse. ATB.
Yes but a VERY important part for us, he deserves the respect when talking about the part he played.
The article isn’t disrespectful at all is it? Referring to him as Mr Brown throughout (apart from the opening paragraph) surely illustrates that.
He was a mister for his entire life. He was a Flt Lt for a small portion of it.
Maurice is back at work, but not yet flying.
That’s great news! I’m so glad he’s on the mend.
I wonder what the cause of the accident was?
Assumption based on what ? Avspecs seem to be the most admirable custodians of vintage aeroplanes.
The rumour mill many years before forums. Since laid to rest by Bruce’s post. Calm thoughts now…
Washed with petrol and dried with a match, I assume.
I think I’ll drag this thread up when it all starts getting a bit personal. It won’t gather moss…
Trouble is where in 2017 could you build a news RAFM on one site. Ideally a expansion period RAF station, current or former. It would need to be pretty central, with good transport links, so not Coningsby, but maybe Wittering or Cottesmore? What About Mildenhall, although not very central but shortly available. The former RAF camp at Biggin would also be interesting but lacks hangars. Of course it is just a pipe dream and it could cost millions.
It is interesting to see that visitors figures for Cosford and Hendon are roughly the same around 350,000, with Duxford at 278,000, according to this site http://www.alva.org.uk/details.cfm?p=423 .IWM London shows at 1.1 million!
RAF Scampton would be ideal! Long runway, lots of infrastructure currently unused, home of the premier aerobatic display team, move the BBMF there, build more hangars. A live home, RAF presence, central location, land is cheap and you’re not going to upset the locals! Oh and me only living 6.5miles away would more than welcome to this local… 😉
Absolutely Brilliant! It’s great to see axis aircraft operating and even better when they’re rare variants. I so wish Germany would relax its ruling on the Swastika, that would be the icing on the cake. They just look wrong (I appreciate only in my eyes) with the German flag on the fin. Come on Angela, sort it out 🙂
With only 3 hours of display flying each day, I think legends is a must, regardless of content.
I used to attend Fighter Meets, then Legends from both sides of the fence (BBMF Dak in 2005, TFC volunteer 2005-11). My daughter was born in 2013 and she won’t be missing one.
You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, but for me it’s the only aeroplane “fix” I get all year now.
There’re new processes in place regulating airworthiness at BBMF, so these processes need adhering to to allow the aeroplanes to fly. Some would say round block through square hole, but modern governance applies to all airworthy assets.
It’s larger area, and the best way to do it on an elliptical surface is to extend one plane.
Commercial Fluid 41 is what you need.
Maybe a bit of embellishment to the tale, but a satisfying result.
