Well, no calling me ‘Daddy’, okay?! 😉
‘Lancasterman’? Oh hell, I’ve gone and multiplied! 😮
I’m laughing my socks off at Robbo’s pic, that’s bloody brilliant mate!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀
I’ve just put my money where my ladle-full of sloppy soya is, and have emailed them-any reply will be posted here.
This has long been one of my bugbears with the place.
The catering in the main restaurant is apparently provided by an outside firm, and frankly, I’ve eaten better quality food in hospitals; very poor choice, very high prices. BAD.
Last time I was down there, about a year ago, I asked one of the two guys on the desk at the entrance to the BoB Hall what time the restaurant opened, and they both just laughed and suggested I try a pub that was apparently somewhere or other nearby. One of them also went on at length about some soya-based ‘meat’ thing that had been served in there once, and how he would never eat in there again after that.
They spend millions on a new building just to hold a loose collection of unconnected aircraft under a silly ‘Milestones’ title, they frankly embarrass their own aircraft by placing them on ridiculous perches, and they don’t bother to properly illuminate entire Halls.
THEN, the food is sh*te.
Maybe someone should copy and paste this entire thread to them? I mean, what will it take for them to LISTEN? 😡
An Airfix 1/24 Hurricane, woo-hoo!
Absolutely-may you all have much drink, even more food, and no dodgy mag-drops.
Mike 😉
Ugh, you didn’t actually pay money for ‘Top Gun’ did you?! 😮
What’s the new cafe like? Hendon desperately needs a decent restaurant, as the ‘food’ provided by the outside catering contract in the main restaurant is abominable. (You’d be better off chewing the grass outside)
Great shots, though sadly I think more than ever that the new building is a totally pointless mish-mash of odd content.
Looking forward to seeing the hangar though, that sounds much more like it!
Steve is 100% right; as I’ve mentioned on her before, I well remember the sound and spectacle of the Me410 ground running on airshow mornings at St Athan years ago. Now what’s it doing? Dust collectng at Cosford-a tragedy.
Much as I love Hendon-it was my first aviation museum, and despite everything, is still my own personal favourite-I do think that even with it’s new building etc etc, it’s actually a place that’s getting old, fast.
My blood boils when I see Black 6 just sitting there in the gloom and murk; it’s heartbreaking. Okay, maybe it’s safer on the ground in the long run, but can’t they even illuminate the thing properly?
Instead of a new building full of a lot of nothing under a loose title, couldn’t they have arranged some way of having aircraft see the odd bit of daylight every now and then for a change?
what do you think of the Milestones collection at Hendon and do you agree with whats in there?
I’ve sort of already given my opinion, but to answer the two questions-
1. Not much,
2. No!
I WAS only kidding, y’know!
I have to say, although I’ve not actually been there yet, that based on the published lists of the aircraft that were going into the ‘Milestones’ building, it does all seem kind of a pointless mish-mash.
Hmm, are adverts allowed on here then?! 😉
