Just watched it on the BBC News website.
Cant believe it was 6 months ago the aircraft was recovered, where has the time gone. Top marks to the restoration team at Cosford very impressive work so far. Well Done!
Don’t know if I have missed it but does anyone know if the aircraft has been officially identified i.e. Identity plate?
I watched a documentary the other day. It stated that due to heavy losses the Luftwaffe withdrew the Ju87 because of its under carriage fairings and bad aero dynamics causing slow manoeuvrability against Spitfires and Hurricanes.
What this grand old lady really needs is a new nose cone and returned to BOAC Livery.
Look forward to that. Thanks for the heads up. There is a brilliant documentary on a 747 in D Check. It to is on Youtube.
What a great career story. Thanks for posting.
R.I.P. Sir.
Hello Ed
The DARRT Diving team did recover a main wheel tyre plus brake drum assembly from this aircraft in the 1970’s. I remember cleaning the brake drum and shoe pads. Sadly though myself and other group members have tried to contact the curator Robin Hood but without success for some years now. So I can only assume DARRT No longer exists. The fate of the relics and records is unknown.

Probably following the old RAF pilot’s policy. “you fixed it, you fly in it”.
I think that was aimed more at the aircraft fitters, there use to be posters all over the hangers “You fixed it. You fly it”. I always remember got a trip up in a C130 After a minor service. The test pilot was tearing Engineering wing of a strip for things that where wrong with the aeroplane he said you come and fly this thing then. typical flight cancelled I thought. But he said I’ll see if it will fly. Fantastic trip!
There was an FW190 Shot down and finished up on Torquay sea front beach. Bofor’s crews were ordered not to fire at them as they came in at almost street level, the guns would do more damage than the aircraft would. Causing serious damage almost demolishing whole rows of houses. The Bofor’s crew cook saw the aircraft and noticed no one manning the gun. Not knowing why the crew weren’t there he fired and shot the aircraft down. Only to be disciplined for his effort. Amazing story.
WOW! Makes me want to rush out and buy a copy of the DM. Although not many do these days. Headlines like that used to sell news papers. Starts of intact but as you read on down its becomes less and less intact. Nice photos though.
Hi All,
Bombgone, New this was on Youtube as far as I can see the only one enjoy. :eagerness:
Yes forgot all about this one watched it some time ago. Thanks though for reminding me. 😀
Dazdaman. Totally agree, great review.
Have to say totally realistic film with authentic crash scenes. Very enjoyable. Some films e.g. Battle of Britain blowing up plastic models was to obvious. But then to expensive to make using real aeroplanes. I always prefer the early James Bond movies with real cars and boats etc. than the later ones. Modern day special effects, no where near as good.
Yes brilliant series as I remember. Each episode ended with a twist. Torturous weeks wait to see what happened next. Mega expensive to make. That’s the problem now with older air frames. I will be getting the DVD. Great idea thanks.
WOW! fantastic! Great close up shots of the VDM Prop. Any fired up Jumo’s out there anyone?
how about Ruskin Air Services ? Seems a good name to use 😀
Why not indeed. If I remember buying the fuel for the constellation was the problem last time. This time we can apply for a pay day loan to fuel the Hercs to get started. 😀
Thanks for the link. Amazing a Herc in the hanger at Colerne use to look huge. These look tiny in that huge hanger. Sadly they may meet the same fate as the Lancs did at the end of the war. Anyone here up for starting an Air cargo company? 😀
