I can’t see what all the fuss is about, after all the very first 109 was Rolls Royce powered. Its just lucky for us that Willy Messerschmitt had RR Kestrels rather than early examples of the RR Merlin for his flight testing.

When the last of the TT35 and TIII Mosquitos were retired did the MoD offer them for sale or preservation. I know Skyfame, and Liverpool Airport managed to secure examples, did anyone else try to secure one.
I would have thought HAPS, MAPS or NAPS, or the fledging Newark Air Museum would have snapped these Mosquitos up.

Sadsack,
The film Hindenburg featured a Confederate Airforce Buchon in Civil war markings.

Sadsack,
The best place to start looking would be at the Spanish Air Force museum in Cuatro Vientos – Madrid.
I’ll have a look through my photos later but I’m sure the He 111 is a genuine civil war survivor.
Try this excellent site for starters.

This photo shows N109ME in her film markings as Red 8. And for all those originality enthusiasts this is what a Buchon cockpit should look like.

Daz,
G-BOML was set to take up her former film colours at the instigation of the late and much missed Mark Hanna who was a massive fan of the film.

Mark12, Production on ‘High Flight’ reputedly commenced on the April 10 1957 so I guess most of the exteriors would have been filmed in the following weeks, depending on the weather.
The film is occasionally shown on the Turner Classic Movie channel in the US, so hopefully sooner or later someone on the forum could capture a decent DVD copy for future reference. A heads up for its showing would also be much appreciated.

Tallichet also had a few ex Indian Airforce Gnats.

Thanks Snaps, TEEJ,
A few more from Sunday’s action, also including a selection of pilots who took the long route back to the ramp. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the pilots and ground crews at Duxford, for all their hard work throughout 2007.
Its going to be a long winter 🙁

A quick stroll through the conservation hangar revealed that the DAS Varsity is finally receiving some much needed care and attention after many years out in the open.

Very nice shots TEEJ.
The tank bank end was not one of my best choices for photography given the hazy conditions, but the Hellcat take off just about made up for it!:)

Thanks tbyguy,
I had realised Polar Bear was a composite airframe, I had wrongly assumed its was modified for racing. Still one of nicest Mustangs at GML though.:)
And thanks everyone for all the kind comments.

Skyraider, I know exactly what you mean about going through the images on the PC, I need to take a week off work!
Just been going through the identities of some the aircraft that were at the show, and realised that the B25 ‘Pacific Prowler’ is the old Tallmantz/Aces High camera ship known as Dolly. Veteran of numerous movies including the remake of Memphis Belle. What a summer that was at DX.
