batch 4
batch 3
Batch 2.
Just a couple of points I’d like to add to this thread.
Hinton’s speed on the ground was not some deliberate ploy to foyle enthusiasts who wished to take photos as he come past. The fact is the Airacobra has reputation for overheating and in even inservice time on the ground was kept to a minimum.
Bad news the grandstand its going to get bigger! twice the size infact. Unfortunately like Biggin, and many other shows the crowd line is being filled with enclosures and grandstands. Leaving the general airshow visitor feeling rather like a second class citizen.
As one the ‘unknown’ members of the aviation press I agree there needs to be a change, I for one would rather go out earlier in the day or after the show when the light is normally much nicer. A very large number of the ‘Photographers’ were from mainland Europe, where Warbird shows just dont really happen (other than LFA) in theory there credentials should have been checked out, but after following many around on saturday many were shooting video or taking close up detail shots as a modeler would use.
I have no problem with the ‘drama queens’ as it can some times add to the feel of the event, but maybe a system needs to be worked out where as they only go out for the last hour or so.
The commentator thats a difficult one, I know Shuttleworth has had problems finding one, I know a couple of people who had a stint at being one, a thankless job if there ever was one. knowing when to shut up and when to waffle, could you do it!
On the whole I thought it was an excellent show, seeing the Connie, Airacobra and I 15 made the event for me, without those three aircraft I may have come to a different conclusion.

Thanks JDK, Manonthefence, warbirduk I’m glad you liked the pics
To be honest though the photos don’t do the ‘sculpture’ justice. The scale of it was awesome. I kept getting drawn back to the sculpture throughout the day, as a preservationist a heart I did have some concerns with the display, but no more than I have for a vintage aircraft displaying in less than ideal weather.
Goodwood and Rolls Royce should be aplauded for the S6 and Bluebird display. Both will now go back to gathering cobwebs.
For the aero engine enthusiast there was also the sight and sound of Babs powered by a Liberty V12.

The ‘Sculpture’ was created by Gerry Judah who has worked on many similar projects for Goodwood.
I can’t wait to see some pictures illustrating the construction process.
JDK. The entry for friday was only £15 which I thought was excellent value.
Here are a couple more photos.
Does anyone know the last time either a S6 was displayed out in the open

This years official charity for the Goodwood Festival of Speed was ‘Solent Sky’ formerly know as the Southampton Hall of Aviation. I dont know the figures that the museum will eventually receive but given the fact that close to 150,000 people attended the three days of Goodwood I’m sure it will swell the coffers.
The Bluebird K4 Boat is a replica, the car is the 1935 Campbell-Railton-Rolls Royce Blubird which was shipped over from Daytona USA.

Here’s some close up photos taken on the first day of the show. There was a thread to this a week or so ago.

[QUOTE=Mark12]Could I suggest this is a complete non standard prop assembly, probably a modified DC3 unit, fitted to a late production Buchon to make it look more like an Me109G.
Well done Mark12,
The prop was taken from a C-117D Super Gooney Bird with a custom made spinner to make the aircraft look slightly more like a 109.

The BBMf has already changed its name to the Memorial flight. If the Lanc was grounded as some sort of peace gesture it would just be a cover story for MOD cut backs.
