it’s interesting you should bring this up, I’ve decided to stop submitting photos to airliners.net because I find what they are looking for is goes against the style of photos that I like to take. They are very interested in just having photos that show the complete aircraft from a quatering position or a profile view, if we take for example and aircraft that came to the airport where I am at the moment (and I’ve shown these photos on the board before) I decided against taking any normal profile shots as this aircraft has many nearly identical shots of it on the site (G-OOBE) whats the point in taking more of the same.
I like to take photos of things that are interesting and different, detail that is rarely seen but this is not a very popular subject as far as I can tell.
Here is an example, this aircraft is on a round the world tour, its kitted out with 88 first class seats inside and had an 18 strong crew, the crew had each placed a mark on the tyre with a number next to it, whichever number the tyre stopped on the crew member whos number it was one the lottery and got $18, I had a good time talking to the crew and they showed me round their A/C personally. The story is what is interesting to me and I know it’s not a gret photo but personally I prefer this to another whole shot of the aircraft.

I was under the impression that the aircraft were not open to the general public, but judging by some of the damage done to the aircraft while in the museum this is obviously not the case!
A batch of DB’s? Never heard that one!
🙂 Super image Augsburgeagle… I hadn’t realised that the RAFM opened her up from time to time or did you have special access? Also, any help with dates would be great too…

He hasn’t replied yet but hopefully he should tie it down, if you want any specific photos of anything just ask Peter, the Museum does not open the aircraft up.
Cheers
It’s in the airframe

Didn’t realise she had a total repaint! I knew that a few painting faux pas had been fixed but didn’t know it was a full repaint, I will ask my father for the exact date, hopefully he should remember!
Who, what, where?!
Daz i really only meant ground up rebuilds. Didnt include Buchons cos they’ve got merlins at the sharp end & forgot about black 6. Shame it was grounded !!

So how do Red 7, black 2 and FMBB factor in then! Werner Koelzsch may not fly his G14 but it is pretty much air worthy from what I’ve heard! There are also quite a few restorations to flight worthy occuring at the moment, problem is it all takes time, the air will soon be pierced by the sound of 500hp superchargers again!
Hi all, where on the above web site is there a wing? I cant see one!! Looks like they have invested heavily in tooling. The engine block in the cradle, is that a 601 or a 605 ? So far the only person to put restored 109’s back in the air is Craig Charlston in association with Airframe Assemblies.
Steve
That’s quite an incorrect statement!
Hmm,
I first thought benson 90 but the other aircraft make me think duxford so it must be post crash. Notice the MG’s in place, they were not installed untill the mid 90’s so it can’t be before first painting. Notice the stub blanks are well used aswell, I’m thinking post crash resto.
This is hubert Hartmair, his work is well known and used in 109 restorations hence EADS using his services and other restorations, importantly he can reproduce the stressed skin panels for the fuselage. I am intrigued to see that complete replica 109’s are being reproduced obviously someone has some 605’s for them!
Please check out Guttorm Fjelstad’s site to see the excellent work being done on his 88 and other projects in Norway
So where would WK128 have been at this time period and with whom?
There’s a possibility thats the place, but I’m pretty sure it was a canberra fuselage, visible from the road and I think it was on the malverns side of the M5! Terrible to see the aircraft in that state, but maybe if they weren’t there they may have been scrapped?
Interesting suggestions, I would think I saw it in 04-03 and I’m pretty sure it was a canberra but cannot remember if it was just the cockpit or the complete fuselage, it certainly made me look twice!
