Red 7’s undercarriage failure was very unfortunate but good to see she is ready to go again, I had heard that Black 2’s D Mot was shock loaded, if that is true then unless EADS has the parts it may be a lengthy wait.

    Nice!
    It’s like a different camera!

Love that engine, what is it?

    Thanks,
I’m very pleased with the results now, amazing what a difference one setting makes! I believe the engine is a Rolls Royce RB211, it is on a 757 currently parked up at hamilton, I managed to have a good crawl around it this morning again but alas did not have my camera, will have to store it all in my head!

    My manual Settings are:
    Sharpening-none
    Tone comp-Normal
    Colour mode IIA
    Saturation-Normal
    Hue Adjustment-0

I prefer to shoot the camera in manual

what I will do next is put the 300 lens on and take some test shots with that to compare

    EDIT
    HOLD THE PRESS

Robbo you are my new favourite person, I went back into my settings and set sharpening from none to normal and it looks as though that is the winner, I owe you one big time!!! All this wasted time and bad shots due to the difference between normal and none, I have had some great opportunities wasted due to this little mistake so thanks so much for the help!!!!!!!

It’s also great to know I’m not completely barking there was something fishy!

I really don’t understand why you’re using 400ASA in that light.

Bright sunshine, low evening/morning sun and clear blue skies usually mean 1/640 sec at f/8 or thereabouts for me. At 200ASA.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I think you need to buy a book or DVD about digital photography and go through it (and your camera manual) carefully before you bin your camera.

You’re looking for a quick fix, but there are no quick fixes. You simply have to take the time to learn to use your equipment.

Just like the rest of us are still doing. 🙂

That’s a fair appraisal, I can usually pick things up very quickly and become very good at them but i’ve been taking photos with the camera for a while now and still have problems with sharpness, perhaps there is more art to producing excellent photos that I am appreciating! To solve my problem I have tried to Technically replicate the circumstances that should give good photos but I’m just not getting it and I just don’t know what else to do! This morning the 400 was plainly because I forgot to switch it it 200 and only found out once back home so that was purely an oversight, I would have used 200 if I had checked! The reason I am getting a bit desperate is that I have tried lots of things, I seem to be doing the right things, exposure is fine, white balance good (except forgetting to set 200 ISO although that wouldn’t make too much difference) and yet the photos are all not sharp enough! If the photos were bad due to me not having any artistic insight or flair (not that I do!) then no problem and I could understand that but the fact with everything supposedly set up correctly I am not getting sharp shots is very disheartning and i don’t know what else to do!

Here’s another of my cameras disturbing habits! This is an in flight shot (cropped of course but at 100% size) and it shows the strange effect that often happens on detail cockpit shots. All in all I’m pretty disillusioned at the moment and I’m not seeing a fix for the problems.

Well I had some time before flying today to take some test shots and they are the same as usual, they are acceptable for a point and shoot camera but they just arent acceptable for me. The same Fuzziness and lack of clarity/definition is in all the photos. It is starting to really get to me now, I’m lucky enough to have had alot of good chances to take excellent photos and with the equipment I use I would expect crisp shots but its just not happening.
The following photo is ISO 400, 1/500 40.00mm and F10
I’m starting to feel like throwing my camera in the bin!

There’s a photo on the NZ Herald page here

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10552052

Terrible News, saw it in the flesh a few weeks ago and flew in the circuit with it at AR a few days ago. Hopefully the damage will be light and it will be back in the air soon. The fact it has a leg out, does this signify a collapse or one of the legs not locking down or even a groundloop?

A red sprayed primer base is very common on prop blades but not on the rest of the A/C. A red putty was used on the rest of the aircraft to fill seams and gaps and after the paint has gone can often still be found clinging onto parts.

Interesting as Rolls Royce did the first overhaul of the 605 in a well known 109 in the late 80s and they made all the tools for it!

So this is Dirk Bendes new storch? To fly in a storch is one of my dreams, the most suited aircraft to its role in WW2!

Thanks for the input guys, I’ve been trying the higher shutter speeds as I felt the blur might be from movement. I must admit I still have much to learn with photography. When it comes to the photos I have been aiming for lowest ISO, highest F stop but not too high and fastest shutter speed to get the sharpest shots, but it has not been working. As for the Auto, the D70S provides you with a little scale at the bottom of the viewfinder and this shows you the correct exposure to use for the ISO and F number, it works pretty well. What I can’t understand is how I was able to get the sharp and well defined photo above but I haven’t been able to replicate it. Tomorrow I will head out to the airport (day off!) and take some photos I will remove the UV filter and see what I can get,
    thanks for all the help

You guys are on to the same things as me, The conditions down in NZ are pretty much top notch for photo taking and I’ve tried alot of different things to try and crispen the shots up but I do often seem to get this softness with this lens which is really unattractive. i’ve just had another browse through my photos and overall although I get some crisp shots generally they could really do with all being a bit more defined. The lens itself has a UV filter fitted and I do seem to get crisper shots when using a 300mm lens. Perhaps I need a tripod, i’m leaning towards user error here though!
    Cheers

Heres a little example, First photo is 1/1600 18mm, Lacks definition again, you can hardly read the P68C!
Second photo was taken about 10 seconds later 1/1600 62mm but although still not great it seems to have much better definition of the subject than the first photo, I can’t work out why the second photo is much sharper than the first!
