Hi Melve
I hope we’re not talking about THOSE sort of blue pills – you know the ones that “make a girls day” type pills when guys are feeling a “little down” shall we say.
I say the Vimmy should retire too for all of Melve’s reasons. It was also not all that reliable given the issues it had with the chev engines and the crash in Indonesia and although the BMWs were more reliable I believe they are not problem free as well. So perhaps it should retire and live the good life although the idea of a season or two at Old Warden does appeal as well.
What ever happened to the Yank building the Gotha in the USA – is that still happening – it must be as big or bigger surely and would be quite a sight – imagine both of them !!

Hi Ron
I suspect you are correct and perhaps the Vultee Vengeance?
Also perhaps the sea Fury at the AWM

Hi
Wouldn’t be from a certain famous Skywriting stable would it?

Hi James
Well sort of, they generally will not operate faster than the cyclic rate of fire but most will be fairly close to the norm all things being equal although if a spring is weak or a gas alley partly blocked or no/poor lubrication / dirty they will be slower or malfunction. If you had time you could “blueprint” all the guns in an aircraft to make sure all the parts were correct in the tolerances /spring rates etc which would in theory give you very similar rates of fire but in practice nobody ever bothered – just keeping them clean and fixing wear when it was noticed was the best that could be done in service and even then barrel wear was fairly rampant in remote locations like the Pacific theatre.

Hi James
Differences in the cocking mechanisms, recoil springs and gas return flows as well as different levels of friction in each gun will vary and thus one Gun is faster or slower than another and thats why cleaning is so important as well as proper lubrication and attention to wear and tear etc. Never saw two guns with exactly the same cyclic rate of fire despite it being quoted all the time it just didn’t happen.

Take pics of it whenever you like – I think I will be a little to busy to take many so I am happy for you to come – remember to have your visa this time !!!!
The wing centre section is still proving problematical as discussed – too large for containers etc and i don’t favour cutting as this destroys the dimenstioal references which will be vital for it’s restoration . Any leads on an undercarriage yet

Hi all
The Spitfire in the AWM in Canberra is still I believe exactly as she was in WW11 and I believe some of the German airframes (109, 262 and 163) could also be in their original – now revealed paint.

Please understand that mention of the Stirling may seem like a good joke but we are still trying to get backers to fund the rest of the recovery and need all the credability we can muster at present. Please don’t be offended but I’d like to hold off on that till it’s finished.

Well Dulcie Evans told Eva Sharples over the back fence…………..
I Heard it had something to do with what PA caught MK 12 up to with Mrs PA and as a result they all resolved to live happly ever after sans Spits/Seaf and as a result the feud between Mk12 and PA is in a truce phase at present- look it’s just what I heard is all. I’m not here to spread rummors(sic)
John

hi Albert
As far as I know the Viscounts I mentioned in Indonesia were the last two in this list
PK-RVP 832 414 Stored at Jakarta by Mandala.
PK-RVS 816 416 Stored at Jakarta by Mandala.
and are supposed to be Ex TAA aircraft and are supposed to be in/near airworthy condition – i am going to look at them soon so I will post pics – a few people are interested in the comercial opportunaties here but I doubt it’s possible given spares shortages etc.
John
There are two ex Australian Viscounts in Indonesia that are /were airworthy and moves were being made a while back to bring them here for display.
John
Hi
