RIP “Little Chief”

Aircraft are still being dumped and buried – for example during Desert Storm battle damaged aircraft were buried in the desert.

Makes you wonder what else is out there.

Does anyone have any good interior shots from an original 1944 ETO L4 Cub?
Or indeed any websites with colour scheme information preferably for a Cub that served post invasion of France?
Have googled but had much joy?
Any help much appreciated? -don’t mean to hijack the thread.
Thanks
Jason
I think there may be some confusion – the Museum in Bayeux I think DaveR is referring to is the Musee de Bataille de Normandie (extremeley good museum on the Bayeux ringroad) which from memory does have some Typhoon pieces & some more substantial Spit IX remains.
The Typhoon Ollie refers to is a replica and is on show at the nearby Memorial Museum at Caen.
Gorgeous photos – thanks for posting.
It has to be the ultimate development of the P-51 and there are some lovely 3 views in Paul Coggan’s latest Mustang Survivors if I remember rightly.
I remember seeing the crash on Dickie Davies “World of Sport” and how Steve Hinton survived is a miracle – very very glad he did.
Cheers:)

The job of moderating this forum must be very difficult as this forum attracts a diverse range of views to say the least and a lot of ‘characters’.
In circumstances like these the first priority should be the sensitivities of the friends and family of those involved.
Of course informed debate always has a place but it must be informed and not be based on groundless speculation.
I’m afraid all of the circumstances of the Oskosh crash are unlikely to be known until the NTSB report is complete. I’m sure if the NTSB makes any recommendations the display pilot community will take head.
I am not a full-size display pilot and I am not qualified to do anything else but to convey my sincere condolences to the friends and family of Mr Beck.
Everone must take some responsibilty for moderating their own posts and take some time before hitting the submit button to think whether their post will cause offence to others.

DX
I’d heard that Tom Blair was hoping to have a hangar of his own at DX and that the site of the old (blown up)hangar had been mooted however this had been turned down by the powers that be because people wouldn’t be able to find the runway restaurant – how true this is I don’t know!!
I think that now is the time for a bit of a tidy up – be nice to see the Junkers 52 (casa ) in the BoB of Hangar with the restored He 111.
Certainly more hangar space needed as too may aircraft still displayed outside.

😀
Was there yesterday & watched today from the Garden – superb display – well-organised.
The Heritage Flight (F-15 & warbirds) was awesome – met Ed Shipley yesterday and he is the nicest guy – the Horsemen display with Jim Beasley was also brilliant.
Very well done to all at TFC.:) 😀

According to WIX and Airshow Buzz – coolant leak -& it’s almost certain a cracked liner. That means new head and bank.
Can’t travel across Atlantic with a new engine.
Bu**er!! 😡

Aaaaah, model planes.
I remember a certain individual piling into my 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup with his DR1 – first flight of a full weekend of flying. I managed to land most of it and was picking up the rest when Zee German came over and said, ‘I bent my crankshaft on your U/C axle, can I borrow your engine for the rest of the weekend?’
Herr E Pleine
Was hoping you wouldn’t remember me turning your Pup into a solartex bag!
How things have changed and you have now come over to the dark side (zee Germans!)
Hope the auction goes well – wish I had few more bucks!

I believe Herr Pleine is, or possibly was, a celebrated builder of scale model aircraft.
Indeed Her Pleine was a celebrated Remote Control RfC ace and a deadly exponent of the turning low-level dogfight with his 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup.
One particularly remembers a low level fight over the Tirpitz at an Elvington airshow – it seems a lifetime ago!

I’m afraid most of the buildings at Bottisham have now been demolished – some of the murals were saved (the flying tractor is at the museum at Thorpe’s Abbott).
The are couple of buildings left on the field which are know known as the smokery and there are one or two buildings left in the village but very little remains.
If you need any further assistance please don’t hesitate to get in touch – my email is on the website.
Cheers

Congratulations Peter!
A truly amazing collection – I only suggested the RLM storch – never thought you’d actually buy the whole collection – but then you never do things by halves.
How about that tour you promised me?
