Thanks to Rob (aka Wyvernfan), Chris and Mark for clearing the yard the other week – greaty appreciated – should have a useable dedicated workshop for the project within a matter of weeks.
In terms of events an airfield walk is shortly to be confirmed for April/May. We are hosting a Friends of the Eight meeting on June 22nd. We also have an open day at the end of September.
Otherwise the museum will be open by appointment.
http://www.bottishamairfieldmuseum.org.uk will shortly be updated with full details.

August 18 1944
The midair occurred on August 18 1944 when a lone 78th FG P-47 flown by Jack Miller flew through the whole of the 361st FG as they were in the pattern to land – unfortunately both Miller & 2nd Lt. Milton Dahl of the 361st FG were killed.
Rob has been been out for a walk with Peter Dawson an eyewitness to the crash.

Yes that looks right -even though it has come down in price it is still beyond our budget.
We also need one
Watching intently as we also need one for the Bottisham Airfield Museum P-51Mustang cockpit replica.
If anyone has any leads they would be greatly appreciated.

Tony,
We have been looking for a year already.
Maurice has a set but is not willing to part with them – has offered us the chance to come & measure them.
We have aquired some lower longerons but are really struggling with top longerons.
We have even tried John Seevers in the US who does the replacement longerons.
I think it is the same old story of full-size restorers not wanting to pass on parts in case they come back to bite them later on in terms of provenance/identity.
On the plus side we have just acquired a working N9 gunsight.
Catch up soon.
Similiar to this P-47 – photo ‘snatched’ from ebay (unsuccessful auction bid).
Would love to join you.
Have a look at http://www.controltowers.co.uk/8%20list%201.htm
Also have a copy of Airfields of the 8th if you want to borrow it.
http://www.amazon.com/Airfields-Eighth-Then-And-Now/dp/0900913096
Also the tourist board produced a map of the 8th AF bases which I may still have if you need a copy.

Anyone know if P-51D Mary Mine is stored their?
I believe it is owned by Baron Corp which maybe one of the WoGB holding companies. There have been conflicting rumours of its whereabouts – some say Greenham Common – some say Florida.
Mary Mine is the sole surviving original 361st FG P-51 complete with combat hsitory and confirmed kills – seems a shame for a 8th AF vet. to be in storage.
Any info much appreciated.

p-51 Progress
Just some quick photos of the bulkhead going onthe P-51:-
Rob,
Good to see you giving them a good airing.
I think its great to see these slightly less obvious machines being kept alive – a pleasant change to Spitfires.
Look forward to more progress.
Cheers
