New Exhibit
picked up this gem yesterday – the remains of a packing case for the 75 gallon drop tanks for the P-51 – an original item dated 2/22/1944 – very likely to be from Bottisham as was local – thanks to Ian Waters for donating it to the Bottisham Airfield Museum – it was given to him as firewood and luckily he realised its significance!
Confirmed exhibits so far for the open day on 30th September:
P-51 cockpit – Gary Dean
P-51 cockpit – Bottisham Airfield Museum
10 x WW2 military vehicles with more expected
WW2 local history display – Fulbourn British Legion
WW2 firearms & uniform display – Ken King
Seal Military stall
Unique collection of WW2 USAAF flight jackets & flight gear – Nick Pennistan
Luftwaffe, USAAF & Civilian Re-enactors
Hopefully more to come – please come and support us – we need all the help we can get as we are trying to find a permanent home for the museum.
Cheers
We at Bottisham Airfield Museum wish the team every success. We have already been in touch and provided the team with a full set of wartime photos that should allow them to finish the aircraft correctly should they decide that to do so.
Our P-51 will be also be finished as Lou IV/Athlene in memory of Colonel Thomas Christian who was killed whilst flying from Bottisham on August 12 1944. Unfortunately Christian was buried in an unmarked grave in the WW1 cemetery in Arras.
We hope to to show what an 8th AF P-51 would have look like in the Summer of 1944.
All our research and interviews with pilots and ground crews have shown no indications whatsoever of blue paint on any 361st FG machine.
For more information on our P-51 please visit http://www.bottishamairfieldmuseum.org.uk/p51.htm
Thanks
Jason

Warbirds
Gary,
Great post and good to see some pictures of the warbirds – Tony’s Spit slice is gorgeous, the Aircobra is stunning & you sir are being extremely modest about your award winning performance – well deserved.
Thanks for posting.
thanks Dave.
I’m sure Rob (aka Wyvernfan) will give me a slap soon for my poor identification skills….:diablo:
Windshield identity?
Curiosity getting the better of me.
What’s the windshield off in Pully 113’s photo ??
(Apologies for re-posting photo).
Cheers

Baz,
I think the one you are referring to at Booker is the Tempest V of Kermit Weeks (I really hope this comes to fruition:)
But may face same problem with Napier Sabre.

I went yesterday morning and the tower was shut. I was told it it was because there wasn’t sufficient museum staff to man the museum and run the event.
The event has great potential and is in a great location. I hope it becomes a regular but seemed to suffer from a lack of advertising and signage that may have affected the attendance.
Also everything rather spead out with gaps – perhaps more exhibitors arriving today???
