Just latched onto this thread.
Am I right in thinking that this is the same ‘WT720’ which is actually a Hunter F.51 formerly Danish AF and painted as “WT720/B” sat ‘up the pole’ in all weathers guarding the gate at RAF Sealand between 1988 and 2006
Indeed you are.
Be nice to find out where this and the Lightning pit end up…..
Recent e-Disposal item – or did that go elsewhere?
Not sure about the plastic FSM, but XZ135 GR3 nose went to Everett’s
I suspect these were taken at BA Taylors yard at West Bromwich, after the sections had been moved from Coleys at Hounslow.
There is a more famous picture of sections lying at Taylors yard and the topography matches these better than the Hounslow site.
Nice collection of pictures, certainly ones I’ve never seen before.
Lansen has moved
A tip off on Friday, followed by a recce on Saturday (yesterday) found the Lansen now sitting next to the railway line on the outskirts of Willenhall town centre.
Attached was the best shot we could get of it, taken from a railway bridge, as its in a locked compound, run by ‘Triple R Solutions’ which appears to be some sort of recycling company. It was located behind by several large skips full of ‘stuff’ and appears to be a storage yard rather that an active recycling facility.
Well mines turned up this afternoon all safe and sound.
First impressions – clearly a lot of work has gone into documenting all the ‘survivors’ from flying aircraft to collections of metal parts which would fit in a cardboard box..
Its actually quite eye-opening what some of the listed airframes actually appear to constitute, but then I guess that’s what having high values against this particular type brings to the table. Certainly there are bigger sections of other lesser types sat in abandoned Scrapyard’s shown on another thread, which appear not to be worth pursing, whilst the thinnest of surviving parts constitutes a worthwhile restoration candidate in this volume.
I’ll certainly spend many hours reading through all the histories, especially interested in those that belong to someone who’s the relative of a work colleague.
Got to agree 😮 😮 😮
That is an amazing project, might not be full size but one hell of an achievement anyway…
Unless I’ve missed it posted on another thread, I’ve seen reported elsewhere that the Vulcan is planned to be scrapped early April. Its likely to be scrapped in situ, rather than moved into the Nimrod scrapping compound, so get your last photo’s of it now…..
Apparently the RJX on the airfield is also for the chop!
G-BMSG
Ah that all purpose dismantling tool the power saw!:(
Looks like its been seen to by the same guys who moved the Canberra to Millom….
If its destination is Wolverhampton I’ll have to go for a recce when it arrives
There was a chap my Father used to know quite well who had been collecting AWA Siskin drawings with an eye to a reconstruction of one some years ago. He showed me what he had collected up to that point, which were mainly general 3 views and some installation drawings, most were from the daughter of Herbert Woodhams (AWA’s Chairman and Managing Director until 1960). Apparently her son wanted to build a model of the Siskin and the company supplied the drawings to her !
I’ve not had any contact with him in over 10 years, and have often wondered whats happened to them.
Both have gone to the ‘Slimelight’ nightclub in Islington, a ‘Goths’ weekends only establishment according to the website. The Jaguar was reported road running through London in january, the Sea Harrier status was from a couple of reports I read on other forums, although I’ve yet to see any reports its been seen in situ. (any one got some black eyeliner and unsuitable uniforms care to take a look?:diablo:)
XX488 suffered ‘death by JCB’ at Culdrose in January. Also one is apparently destined to be retained by the Fire section on the airfield, so limits which one is likely to be preserved (hopefully ZA111)
I’ve been told just the Balliol, I’m sure someone will be along to update whats happened to the Firefly parts as I’m unsure if its yet common knowledge. All I will say is its found a good home.
Hi Pete, just a small request – I notice a few pictures on your surviours page which appear to be lifted from Demobbed (including two I took) I don’t have a problem with this but could you acknowledge where they came from please. This is as much because we had some of these sent to us for use on our site, but I’m not sure about further re- use elsewhere…
Also I’ll have to dig out my pictures of the dismantlng at Brawdy, prior to it moving to MAM, may take a while, but I know I have the pictures somewhere!
Cheers
Mark
