The picture is taken at HMS Sultan (Gosport) in the storage hangar. This also houses a wasp (XV625) amongst many Sea Kings awaiting their fate.
The location of XE849 has been duly updated !
Talking of Single-seat Vampires and 936 ATC at Hertford, does anyone recall an FB-5 at that location in the late ’60’s early 70’s? I believe it was VV542. I used to pass it traveling between Southend and Stevenage. Then it disappeared. What happened to it? Single-seaters were getting scarce even then.
regards
Bill
Was scrapped 08/1971. There is a picture of it on our sister site UK Serials:

Swampy,
No, I am an owner of some Vampires; just not that one! As I say, its unusual for demobbed not to pick up on the location changes.
Just proves we are not all knowing !
I confess this one has slipped our attention, if you want to PM me with the details of this and any other incorrect ones we may have I’ll happily update the site.
Just checked and I believe it is!
Quite amazing the Museum Vulcan XL360 was delivered into retirement thirty years ago and now the aircraft that replaced it in service has just joined the same collection !
Think I’m getting old….
Not immediately, but its history was one of the reasons they wanted to acquire this one if they were to purchase a Tornado at all. It will hopefully look like this soon (albeit not flying !)
Hi David, yes, flew in circa 9 weeks ago for RTP apparently.
Thankfully the museum were able to work with the RTP to ensure they retained as many original panels for the aircraft as possible, so it will be re-assembled as externally complete over the next few weeks.
There were a number of parties involved in ensuring its arrival at the Museum, although the purchase price has not been divulged.
Lightning XM173 is now in the care of Sir James Dyson and is located at the Dyson headquarters in Malmesbury.
Actually its stored in a Hangar at Kemble alongside his Harrier GR7, last seen by me on Monday.
The Wessex moved on from MSS holdings some time ago to another location in the area – from there it has now migrated to this Yard situated near the M55 motorway at Blackpool, as shown on the e-bay listing.
Has anyone got any photos of ZH809 and ZD991 out in Greece? I’ve never been able to find photos of them!

OOPs typo XX375…..
There’s two Gazelles pictured as well !
XZ375 which has been seen with ‘Mutoid’ before and one of the ex St Mary Bourne scrapyard examples which is now the ‘head’ of the Grasshopper sculpture.
When I visited the scrapyard in 2010 we were told they had been sold to an ‘ artist’ for use in an installation at Glastonbury – but this is the first time I have seen one of them since.
From the ‘Losses’ section on UK Serials:
20/05/1968 WZ869 R Chipmunk T10 1 FTS Crash-landed at Linton-on-Ouse, Yorks after the engine failed to pick up during an overshoot. The student had inadvertently turned off the fuel and ignition.
Yesterday, there was a major search & rescue exercise at South Cerney, Gloucestershire simulating a mid-air collision between an aircraft and a helicopter. Sea King ZH541/V of 22 Sqn arrived for the SAR bit from Chivenor. The ‘helicopter’ in the scenario was this ex AAC Lynx -but which one? The tail boom has been conveniently cut off with the serial! Can anyone identify it please?

It appears to be XZ209 the example in use with JARTS at Boscombe for just such training scenario’s

I think you will find that cockpit section is now with Jet Art in North Yorkshire….
