which is a must read for any interested in defence matters.
If you like the unbalanced ranting of an embittered demobed sailor on issues he doesn’t understand such as Army and Airforce requirements and procurements he didn’t have first-hand knowledge of…..
We return you now to the topic
XV420
very pi$$ed off about that one, I was the ‘mole’ (bunker mole to be precise) that tried to tip off Mick J at CS – he did his best but the wonkers at MoD weren’t interested in saving an F-4, even though the Air Defence Museum (about 5ft from it’s location at the main gate) would have seemed an obvious choice. Understand Mick got a few bits for his one – is there anything else left?
13 Flt 3 Sqn by the way, March 15th 1988!
SPROGGGGGG!!!!
7 Flt 1 Sqn 1983 -I’ve got a copy of ‘Getting into step’ somewhere (Swinderby intro film)
The artice you seek was in ‘the other magazine’ a few years back
The plan was to get one bomb on the runway, hence the off-set AP. The crew, with 1950s tec managed to hit the target with the first bomb – bearing in mind the Vulcan was not designed as an conventional bomber in the first place it was a bloody amazing bit of airmanship
I’ll have to try and track down the photo I took at the time (with a 110) could have sworn it was XL474!
Thanks for that – its been bugging me for years
Nothing personal intended, just the topic has been covered there, and even allowing for inter-service banter much of what Mr Ward has written should be taken with a dose of Saxo IMO
but I concur. Professional Moaners really.
Alternatively the last resting place of many those that have done the deeds we are so interested in, and therefore may be more knowledgeable than those who weren’t there but rely on 2nd hand accounts?
Commander Sharkey Wards excellent book
Let me stop you right there…..Sharkey “I love me, who do you love” Ward’s book has been something of an embarrassment for our Dark Blue brethren since it first appeared. Pop over to PPRuNe and see how highly is views are held by the mil pilots there.
Never mind that, what channel? ‘My name’s Marsh, that’s BAST…’
I stand corrected about Dad’s Army, though I had it in my mind that a techie copied some tapes using the work’s equipment – I wasn’t suggesting Betamax or VHS were around at the time.
Still looking for ‘Airline’ or ‘Game, Set and Match’
Copyright Nazis! If it wasn’t for home tapers that had squirreled away many of the B&W episodes of Dad’s Army they would have been lost for ever. I think Airline was a YTV production and they have been approached to re-issue the series but won’t. So if they are not interested in their product better the enthusiasts keep the memory alive than the master tapes sit in splendid legal isolation until they get dumped in some big spring cleaning exercise.
Try the Guard Box on three site RAF High Wycombe or inside the S259 cabin that was shipped back from the Falklands and now sits at the Radar museum at Neatishead, full of graffiti, both of them…..errr, so I’m told……..
Wasn’t me, right?
OK David you clearly know more about Iraq than I, when do you want Saddam back? PM me if you rearly want to know how much I do know about this subject, I still maintain all you ‘know’ has been spoon-fed to you by UK the media and others with an agenda- just maybe you’ve been misinformed?
