The point is to fill a small niche market.
So small it wouldn’t warrant the expense of an all new wing etc.
The said proposals above seem perfectly logical to me.I wish the press would stop touting this as an A380 rival. It isn’t.
Its meant to fill the gap between the 744/A346 and the A380.
A niche aircraft for airlines who cannot justify the size of the A380, but need something bigger than the 744/A346.OK, it could take some A380 sales from Airbus from customers who would have bought it as it was then only thing available after the 744/a346 but its still not a one on one competitor or rival.
i dont agree with the small niche market for the 747adv, By the time it comes to flying, BA will be looking for a replacement for its 747-400 (54 at the current count), and there is many other 747-4 operators that will be ready to replace there current fleet in the next 5-10 years.
slight change of topic
i was reading in a magazine, i cant remember the name of it, but a former Boeing exec commented on the low sales of the 777 worldliner, he was quoted as saying perhaps if Boeing didnt have a one engine policy for it, perhaps more sales would be forthcoming.
at first i thought pic 4 might be an A330 for northwest, but after close inspection, i know go with the general consensus that its a martinair 763
i think they will order Boeing products, because people say they are not happy with Airbus at the moment, unless there getting A380’s on a “BOGOF” style promotion.

on Sunday 29/5/05 my folks flew back to heathrow on American Airlines, they said the American eagle flight from miami to chicago on an emb 135/145 was brilliant, because the check in agent gave them an earlier flight because the weather at O’hare could not be guarenteed(sp?) but American Airlines flt098 was poor….the flight crew was short tempered, the inflight meal was of “Road side cafe” quality and the IFE was not much better….i had a look at the inflight mag…and if it wasnt adverts on steak houses in Texas it was about computing systems, no fleet information or what is being played on the IFE…the only real info was on the “transcontinantel or Non transcontinantel” box meal you could purchase for $3 or $5 respectivly.
The soft drinks are free (coke, lemonade,Dr pepper and the respective diet drinks and mineral waters) are free……but beers, alcohol and cocktails are charged at $5 a pop.
knowing what i know now…i have to say its BA all the way for me on Trans atlantic flights
i for one hope that T5 is not as bad as T4….when waiting for the first flight to arrive at T4 for the baggage can be as long as 50 minutes, where as all the other terminals can be 20 mins plus…….when copying and pasting the article from BA, i didnt consider other oneworld™ partners for A380 programme arriving at T5.
But,this still doesnt take into account of the European *numbskulls/d-ckheads and jelous….(*delete as applicable) anti competition rules ordering BA, BAA or HM GOVT openinh up T5 to other airlines, such as KLM ( which i saw a KLM 777 climbing like a homesick angel on sunday the 29th May) or air Sri lanka and alike…..
ive tried various search engines and nothing comes on those two airlines
as a regular visitor to both gatwick terminals ( i own an executive transport company that does lots of airport transfers), i have noticed that some flights arriving after midnight can be 10mins up to 4hrs late, the seats are uncomfy, and it feels almost like your sitting on the floor. The Costa coffee shop in the North terminal arrivals is supposed to be 24hrs, but is seldom open after midnight (the staff can be usually found smoking in the special area) The North terminal may be more modern looking and user friendly, but for late flight arrivals in my opinion the South Term is much better, plenty of staff on hand,i can get a Cafe Latte with an extra shot of expresso too…these are just my humble opionions after 3 years since starting the company and doing in excess of 100,000miles a year on airport trips alone
aww that means the flight attendant call button cant be know as the b-tch switch anymore!
i have found some details on one that has been sold

The A300F can carry 51 tonnes of freight over more than 2,600 nm/4,800 km. It gives freight carriers the ideal combination of versatility and economy wherever they need to move their cargo. It can carry significant tonnage and volume on the main deck as well as in the generous underfloor holds, accommodating the full range of existing cargo containers and pallets. And, because it’s derived from the reliable A300-600, it provides the best service standards for operators’ time-sensitive shipments.

i was at Robin Hood today for the first time, dropping some people off, who were catching the Thomsonfly flight to las palmas i believe, very impressed with the terminal building and drop off facilities, although not impressed with parting with a quid for a luggage trolley or the road into it….if it ever becomes busy…they will need upgrading
You cant really blame the Italians for trying to save Alitalia, even though it sucks for people traveling on other airlines, because there cheaper or more versitility in the schedules and offer comparable or better service etc etc.
