Sorry guys – I didn’t for a moment think that anyone’d take it seriously ! 😮
I basically pulled up by the fence next to the road, removed Corgi Lancaster from box, plonked model on fence so……

….a little bit of (very) basic PhotoShoppery – and hey presto !
Still, at least I can say that the model was actually there…..;)
There were one or two….

Looks almost like the Lanc’ seen about to touch down at Fiskerton last winter….

😉 😀
Well, personally I wish it was one week ago and I were on my way to Brunty to do the whole day again ! I’m sure that it will prove to be one of my more memorable aviation days of 2010.
Much appreciation to all the teams at Bruntingthorpe for their blood, sweat and tears at preserving our aviation heritage. 😎
Very unlikely to have been modified in Service use. Many found their way into the hands of private users post-WWII and were gunsmith-modified ( a famous example being one shown on the cover of one of the early James Bond novels ).
The S&W .38 Pistol No. 2 had considerable ‘cachet’ and was a favourite among RAF aircrew as wel las Commando and Parachute units.
Superb pics, LL – do please keep us updated…..
Dont forget the Binbrook fundraiser when the site will be open around XR724 on the 26-27 Jun 10. Please support this worthwhile event.
Regards
Big Barf
It’s a long old trip for me, but I’m determined to be up there for this…..
…… No pictures of Sea Vixen??

🙂
Great pics BUT…… No pictures of Sea Vixen, F-104’s, Nimrod, Hunter etc etc??
Well, yes…but they’re a bit boring…..:o

…see what I mean ?
I only get inspired when a there’s a Lightning involved….

😉
Joking aside, there’s a lot to see at Bruntingthorpe…..I highly recommend it !
I took this exactly a year ago…

I’ve found this thread most interesting. I have a ‘box of bits’ from B-17G 42-38145 of the 452nd which collided with a 388th machine on 19th May 1944. The crash scene looks very peaceful today….

theres supposed to be an open weekend in june up at binbrook to raise funds to open a museum up on the former base with the XR724
Elsewhere on the internet I’ve found a mention that the ‘open weekend’ is due for 26-27th June, but it all sounds rather vague……
Probably been seen on here before, but it was nice to see the Vacher Hurricane proudly displaying its armament….

It was good on the Saturday to be able to get up very close to the aircraft ; a nice change from the usual ‘flightline walk’.
So where’s all the pictures people?!
Here’s a couple from both days. Glad I went – despite poor weather forecasts and the Ash Cloud, it was a good weekend…..

Very pleasant day at Duxford today, I must say.:)
Nice Spring weather – for a change – enough flying to keep the very small crowd amused , you could get much closer to the aircraft than the usual ‘flightline walk’ plus a full complement of trade stalls to peruse without being jostled : for once you could go back and that elusive item would still be there ! 😉
