How much fatigue life does ‘474 have left? I understand she was re-sparred a few years back as part of what was termed a ‘mid life update’ !! That should give her at least another 40 years.

If they force ‘474 to be grounded (which they won’t of course because if they do the whole country will go on strike) but if they did, will they also force CWH to ground their Lanc as well?

    Aerovet,

many thanks for posting the Lockheed 12 photo. What a beautiful aeroplane. I can’t wait to see it. That alone would make the visit worthwhile

    Y11F,

Sadly gone are the days of the guaranteed connection when they’d keep a train waiting until a connecting service had arrived. Sign of the times I’m afraid.

As for the warbirds, the difference, I think, is that the P39 has recently been well publicised in the press (in both Flypast and ‘the other mag’ news articles) as Philo has just stated and has been well known about over the years. It’s only natural that people will be interested in the status of an exciting new aeroplane if they are expecting it. It is probably much better to have last years Hurricane IV situation where very only the right people new about it until it arrived at Duxford.
The suggestion that the P39 would be at Legends has probably never appeared on any official TFC website or info. It clearly doesn’t feature in their advertising for the event, so they themselves have not generated the interest. But, if they wanted it to remain out of the public eye as they did so well with the Hurricane last year, they would need to find out how/why the magazines have printed storys on the subject.

Possibly, they’re too busy working on it to worry whether the general public know what’s going on or not, and actually, I don’t blame them.
As I said earlier, if it’s there it’ll be fantastic. If it’s next year, then it will be fantastic then. This years list looks very good even without the P39

But, if anyone DOES know, and it isn’t on the secret list, then why not share it!!

I don’t know of any other operators who are in the process of importing a major warbird type to the UK just before the major airshow that they run every year, after a major UK magazine has released the details.
If there was somebody else in the same situation then I’m sure they’d get the same attention.

Hey, Y11F, how was your train journey the other week? Cancelled, derailed, or just plain late?? 😀

I’ve just asked this question on another thread.
Good luck in getting an answer. It’s like getting blood out of a stone.

I imagine that if it had arrived and been pulled out of a container then someone would have photographed it but you never know.

I do hope it’s there but we’ve been waiting many years for this aeroplane and I’m sure another year won’t hurt.

Does the same apply to Tornado (Panavia, Hawker, or North American)?

    Is it Tornados, or Tornadoes?

And while we’re on the subject, what about that faithful old helicopter the Wessex.

Is the plural Wessii? Wessexs always sounds wrong?

With reference to the DC6 over London, this answers a little mystery for me.
While watching the Wimbledon Tennis coverage on Monday evening (look what married life’s done to me!!!) I was sure I could here the familiar sound of an overflying DC6 in the background. I assumed that I had imagined it.

    Obviously not!!!

As well as the Rapides, which Dragon is it? Is it the Aer Lingus one or the UK based one restored last year?

Come to that, what about the Lockheed 12? Surely it isn’t Sidney Cotton’s Photo recce’ aircraft is it? I know that this highly significant aeroplane was airworthy and up for sale in USA a couple of years ago?

Unless Grumpy is making a final apearance before departing?

I saw her at the Dutch show at Volkel on the 19th June (where it looks like this photo was taken).
She does look 100% better. Very nice indeed.

    Cracking list.

As ‘Grumpy’ has now departed, or, at least, is in the process of departing, can we safely assume the one of the B25s is the RedBull sponsored aircraft?
Given the number of Corsairs in Europe these days, I can only assume that one of these is also a ‘RedBull’ machine?

    ‘twood be very nice.

Looks like a bit of an airliner-fest which makes a nice change (still 12 Spits though, so don’t panic if you’re not an fan of civil stuff).

They were the ones that repainted it with the paint which subsequently fell off!!!!!

Quite correct, although I don’t think that was actually their fault.

It was due to the wrong type of paint!!

As a railwayman I get used to wrong type of things (snow, leaves etc) and the first thing you do is learn how to pass the buck!!

Is the Lincoln just at Sandtoft? Thought that bits had been given away/loaned all over the place – Nermal

I seem to remember that there was a recent thread (in the last 6 months) that covered this story in great depth. It is a very complicated story.
The Sandtoft Lincoln is an emotive subject on this forum!!!

The duxford victor looks rough from the outside but wasnt she being lovingly looked after by a husband and wife team? (ashley can you check on this)!

The name Roger Brooks springs to mind. They did a lot of hard work on this aeroplane while it was in the Superhangar many years ago.

Such a shame about it’s current condition but hopefully it will be sorted out once it’s back in the dry.
