That is precisely what he wants you to think!!

Sorry, I’m not sure I understand. Are you saying that Janie is based at Wittering now?
It would make for an interesting dogfight with a Harrier:D

Whatever happened to it was nothing to do with me. I know that in the past threads have been removed by those that started them but not this time!!
Oh well.
Willow:(
Just so you don’t think that we’re all ignoring you, my favourite from the whole day was seeing the F117 with the Red Arrows. Very good piece of organisation. Second would be the A330 with the two German Tornados (I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned this yourself A330crazy!!) but as a solo performer, the New Zealand Air Force Boeing 757 gave the best show, considering the aircraft.
The static stole the show though. My favourites here being the 2 Swiss Mirage IIIRS in special colour schemes. Closely followed by the RAF Museums Be2, and then the Gloster Javelin, EE Lightning, and VS Scimitar. Fantastic.
Purely personal preference at this event. My favourite aeroplane overall would be the BBMF Hurricane LF363, but because I’ve seen it (several) times before in similar circumstances, it doesn’t stand out quite so much this time.

Gosh, it’s obvious when you know isn’t it:)
Thanks for that Mike, glad there’s somebody out there who can see the wood for the trees!!
I can’t believe that I’ve even checked in my latest copy of the Warbirds Directory and not spotted this. I was so intent on looking for serials, I completely ignored construction numbers.
Thanks again Mike

Typical isn’t it. Every time I open my big mouth. Since I posted this remark all but one post have been complaints. You just can’t win sometimes:(
Willow
Am I wrong (again!) or isn’t there a fairly strong family connection between the late Doug Arnold and Flying A Services?

Actually, I was rather thinking that the government would pay for the restoration. Silly me.
As for the medics in Basra, that’s strangely close to home at the moment as one of my future cousins in law, who is an Army Doctor, left very recently to go to Basra.
Strange coincidence!!

I can’t see Janie in there anywhere……….

Sean,
yes, sorry. Completely forgot about the Albatross. I was in a tent full of pre WW1 aeroplanes at the time and missed it. It’s a lovely aeroplane, I’ve seen it before at the 2002 ILA Berlin.
I didn’t count the Fouga Magister as it’s still serving but you’re right, it is historic. Unfortunately, having gone only on saturday, I didn’t get to see the Iskras this time but yes, they’re historic as well.
It wasn’t actually a complaint, just a comment, any lack in the flying was more than made up for by the static display which had fantastic content and a good layout.
Even the blue cones seem to have backed off a bit, which as a keen photographer is great news!!
One of the best RIATs (or IATs) I’ve been to, and I’ve been to every one since 1979.

My first Airshow was at Duxford (surprise surprise) in 1976. I was only 6 so I don’t remember a lot about it. I remember we parked the other side of the main road. I remember that as we walked onto the airfield between the hangars (4 and 5 in the current scheme of things) the Red Arrows flew over to start the show. I remember walking by a really big yellow thing, now positively identified as the ex Monarch Airlines Bristol Britannia, and seeing a small german aeroplane fly by as part of a ‘guess the height and speed’ competion. That would be Lindsey Waltons Bf108. I also remember seeing on the news later that a Spitfire (BBMF?) had stood on it’s nose while landing. That’s about it.
My next Airshow was at Woodbridge, also in 1976. There was a flyby by 3 F111s, each with the wings in a different position. I also remember reading ‘do not paint’ on the big black nose of a jet, which I expect was a Phantom as they were based there at the time.
I can also remember seeing my first Mustang, when an example visited from the US and flew alongside Sally B during the Duxford 1977 Airshow. Very exciting at the time. Actually it still is!
We lived in Royston at the time, which is only a few miles from Duxford, so there was often aeroplanes about.
Happy, happy memories.

So Einstein was right. Time travel is possible:D
