Is this relating to the same piece of Spitfire film mentioned on another thread, or is this, in the words of Monty Python ‘something completely different’?
Willow
Thanks for that. I can probably guess which old man and which Spitfire!!
Of course, Mustangs would NEVER fly that low, now would they;)
Willow
I think, as far as the Hastings is concerned, ‘the futures bright – the futures AirSpace’ !!
It is most definately included on the list of aeroplanes to be included in the new exhibition (called AirSpace) to be situated in the rebuilt ‘Super Hangar’ in a few years time.
Willow
Neither! I work for (or am employed by:) ) the railway, and have done since it was all called ‘British Rail’. A situation we are hopefully going to get back to in a few years time.
However….
do I get 10 anorak points for pointing out that it is, in fact, the old British Rail symbol, not the Intercity one which featured a Swallow in flight?
Willow
I agree with your comments completely. When you walk up to 889 you see a beautifully restored Lancaster. When you walk up to ‘S’ for Sugar, you see an aeroplane that actually flew many many missions in defence of the free world. Bit of a difference there! Has Sugar ever been repainted, or is it in it’s own orginal paint. If it is, then it would be a shame to repaint it. However, if it’s been repainted before then yes, it should be done again.
Willow
What sort of question is that to ask before the watershed?:D

This thread was unfortunately lost during the ‘Forum Crash’ which occurred over the weekend.
Willow
Moggy, I understand what your saying and in any other case you would be quite correct. However…..
in this case the owner already has a collection of large post-war aircraft which are only taxiable, including a Victor and Comet. Keeping the Vulcan would therefore make sense as it would still fit extremely well into the existing collection even if it was only to be taxiable.
It was always the main attraction at Bruntingthorpe, and would continue to be so.
Well, except for the Lightnings maybe!!

Why? Surely as a potential flyer, 558 must be in better structural condition than any other Vulcan. Why scrap it?

Can someone enlighten me as to the content of this famous film footage? I was off the forum for a couple of days and missed it.
It sounds pretty interesting.
If whoever put it on before can put it on again, how long will we have before it vanishes once more??
Willow
What about KB889 at Duxford? Probably one of the best static restorations of a Lancaster carried out (I did say ‘probably’). Mostly done single handedly, I remember, by Eddie West. He also restored the Hastings which is now being left to rot outside.
I notice that KB882 is mentioned as having an operational history. As they were obviously built at the same time, does KB889 also have a combat history?

Oh, come on. Where have you been. It’s not a teddy, it’s a CLANGER!!
Therefore, it must have been dropped, not thrown:D

It wouldn’t be so bad if there was a little message saying ‘ this thread has been removed because…….’
My stepladder poll went the same way. I’d like to know what happened to that as well.

I think you’ll find that ‘474 wore a 101sqn scheme in the late eighties. Working from memory, I believe that ‘474 has worn the following codes (in this order)during her BBMF time.
KM-B 44sqn
AJ-G 617sqn
SR-D 101sqn
WS-J 9sqn
QR-M can’t remember sqn
Have I missed any or is that it?
How about a Coastal Command scheme. Those guys deserve recognition as well. Besides, it would look fantastic.
