C.1985 my dad and his then Boss Ronan Harvey of Delta Jets fame decided to start a gliding club at Bruntingthorpe – I was 9 or 10 – they bought 6 T.21s ex- air cadets for about £200 each which had been stored for a number of years – at auction, together with 1500 ft of cable, and an ex USAFE Germany Chevy V8 pick up truck – the memory I have best was of the CAA ‘test’ pilot arriving to check the aeroplanes out – my dad being volunteered as ballast and turning green as the CAA pilot had a chute and he didnt – my first ever flight – 2 dodgy 2 way radios were used, one by the truck driver and one by the pilot, shouting distance to end of runway and present height!
TT
I wonder if this glider tucked away in Delta Jets hanger is one of those original gliders TT ?

Looks like a Piper Cub to me!
Good Spot that XM172! 🙂
I will be there as part of the Ground Support Team, dont forget to introduce yourself to us, although my favourite aircraft is the Lightning so be warned!
Anybody else fancy a flight?

Dave
Thanks everyone for posting these piccies – nice to see proper aeroplanes! 😀
That G-BJEL looks a strange beast – I like it. Should have been no surprise when I looked it up and found it was French! Shame to have missed the Swallow.
Unfortunately I dont Alan. I was told today she wont be landing but you know what its like – anything can happen!
Thats a rather posh David Brown tug next to ‘KRP,looks just the part.
How did the day go Dave ?
Well I believe one of our forumities had something to do with the tug, not sure which one….;) Perhaps they would like to tell us more. 🙂
I missed most of todays activities as I was in the classroom on a security course but it was pretty quite due to the lack of notice and probably the FA cup final and other sporting events. But the Prentice and the Rapide went up doing pleasure flights in the morning and the Dak in the afternoon. I was offered a free flight on the Dak and turned it down! 😮 (Yes I am mad!) Oh well of to Blackpool in a couple of weeks – anybody fancy flying in the Dak at Blackpool and saying hello?
To be fair there wasn’t alot of notice for this one – plenty of time till July 28th though! 😀
Be good to put another face to a name. 🙂
Indeed she did – one Griffon turning in the background of the Cranberry piccy. Unfortunately this did coincide with the biggest rain shower! Sounded nice though. Here she is at rest.

Just a few piccie’s for those that couldn’t make it today.
Next open day July 28th – ‘Back To The Forties’ – Go on, you know you want to! 😀

The new Rapide / Dominie

The Jersey Heron under maintenance

A wet Cranberry – Just for Bex!

Think you can get a cream for that…….

A load of punters go of on a pleasure flight

The DC6 office.
More if you want them.
Oh I’m sure you’ll be impressed with the display…….:D
And then there’s always the one in the museum……..
I’ll be there with Air Atlantique. Always a good show. 🙂
Canberra will be flying in from Coventry, displaying and returning to base. It is not expected to land. 🙂
Because it has the wrong name – technically. Should be the RAF WW2 memorial flight – but it doesn’t have the same ring. 😀
Also if it had to many aircraft the treasury man would say “thats to expensive” and pull the plug.
Red and White kerosene burner should be arriving by air as soon as there’s space in the hanger!
Hope some of you can make it Saturday. 🙂
A bit worried about the comment I made here. Just to clarify as far as I know the classic flight does not have a Percival Provost under restoration (unfortunately), however if you keep your sights on the hangers you may see something red and white and burning kerosene shortly. 😉
P.S. Great photo’s Will.
