The flight manual states that if you change the canopy to Canadian part number then you have to change the front screen as well as this provides the crash pylon. The Canadian POH states that the canopy must be open for take-off and landing but the UK one does not.

Bristol Plastics ‘blew’ the canopies for the ‘ Masefiled’ conversions but they may well have fitted them to the existing front screen which is what other conversions such as that of Darryl Gilbert in Canada have done.

For the record the conversions were:- GAOTM Sir Peter Mssefield
    G-APOY Airways Aero Club
    G-AOST Proven of Scotland
    G-ARFW Hon Miss Felicity Willis
‘RFW was in fact the ex DH demonstrator G-AJVD – it crashed 13 miles East of
Cherbourg due to engine failure June 20th.1966

The Royal Flight Chipmunk WP 903 for Prince Charles also received attention
at Bristol in March 1961 when they added the canopy beacon a photo of which is attached

Unfortunately, not a rumour, 753 is indeed tendered for crush only. Efforts are a foot however!

Any known reason for this? The Lightning has never been part of any arms treaty. Doesn’t make any sense to me 🙁

That is my hope Dave, but it would have to be quite a strange route Booker – Yorkshire via the M11 – still hoping though.

This Gemini would be c/n 6524 G-AKHW then, once owned by The Plymouth Aero Club and flown often by Philip Clieife who went on to start Mayflower Air Services. She’s also survived a trip over the cliff at the end of the runway at St Marys. 😮 On this occasion the brakes failed and the pilot ( Mr Clieife ) tried to switch both engines of but a switch failure ment the starboard engine kept going. The runway sloppes down to the cliffs and so the pilot abandoned the aircraft to its fate but not before it run him over – ouch!

    Hello Andy,

Just like to say thanks for all the efforts DJ’s have put in over the last 9 years. I’m a big fan but live in Suffolk and have very little time off so unfortunatly have not been able to get invovled. I wish you all the best for your 10th anniversary year and look forward to Kemble 2006. If I happen to meet you lot in a bar the first rounds on me !! 😀

Except that the SHF don’t fly aerobatics with the A-26 in the UK. Read the first post again and you will see that the display at Leuchars consisted of wingovers, but not rolls.

Ok yeah, getting abit confused with all this 😮

So Oscar’s having a pop at the pilot of the A26 for doing aero’s when he’s not doing them….

I think there also seems to be some presumption that the A26 has only ever had one pilot, which I dont know is correct.

I’m curious. Maybe Skybolt might be in the best postion to answer this…..

If the A26 is ‘strictly prohibated’ from performing aerobatics how has this pilots display been approved by the CAA ?? Is the pilot just approved as a display pilot by the CAA and then the routine is upto him or has the actual routine in the aircraft been observed and then passed taking all available information into account ??

I live 20 minutes from Duxford and I’m a Friend of Duxford but I havent been to one of there airshows this year or last but I do make the trip to Kemble every year and to Gransden and several of the smaller shows. Maybe I am just complacent but there line up’s just don’t excite me. I would really love to see the line up for one of there shows and just go “yes” and get very excited but I dont think thats happened since the OFMC scaled down there operations. No real opinion on the prices etc. Perhaps they could think about the fact that it’s supposed to be a ‘show’ not just a history lesson.
