You mean six or seven people carrying on a perpetual crusade for a ‘level playing field’ and the other several thousand getting on and discussing aviation?

    Good point well made.

    Well said Moggy. 🙂

Thanks for the update Mpacha. Just one thing thought – XR773 is an F6 the T5’s are the 2 seaters.

You say Thunder City seems to have run into hard times – any expansion on that?

I will stick up for Todays Pilot as without it I dont think I would have even considered the thought of going for my PPL ( not that I am yet but I’ve taken a few flights with a view to when the money situation is better ). The ‘other’ mags were always very much a closed door you read them and they presumed you knew everything, not very inviting. Perhaps they are not the best read for pilots but it’s the best for people thinking of taking flying up. Having said that it has been getting a bit weak lately as they ran out of things to do but as you say back on track know. Just my 5 pence worth.

Mpacha – any idea if they will be using a T5 ( lighter ) or a F6 ( more fuel ) ? P.S. any news on how XP693 is coming along as it’s now about 1 and a half years since the engineers told me it would be flying in about a month!

When we voted the moderators in we obviously did not expect this situation to occur, and when authority of any kind has no popular support, it is surely untenable? Regular (annual?) elections would go a long way towards bringing back a popular mandate for those entrusted with smoothing the waters

I was thinking along the same lines Damien.

JDK and Jeepman I agree with your posts.

As JDK has said ‘one earns respect by one’s own behaviour’. Acting like kids squabbling because you don’t get your own way does no one any good. Can we not put this all to bed know and just get on with what were supposed to be here for? If all this winds you up to much perhaps this forum is playing to much of a role in your life? I thought all this had been put behind us a little while ago.

In my opinon there was no need for Steve to post his thread in the first place it would have been better sent out in a PM to those who had contacted him. All it could do is stir up old arguments which it has done. Nothing personal just my opinon. Moderators feel free to moderate this last bit if you like.

The Lightning is I believe the true record holder because as you say it gets there the quickest in full service fit. The only way the F15 could beat it was to strip the airframe and teather the aircraft to the runway and then release it with an explosive bolt – cheating in my book.

DEFINITELY not the same one then – I wasn’t even a twinkle in 1967! Wouldn’t mind knowing what did happen to that one, though!

    Adrian

Probably Meteor T7 WH132 and still there I believe with No.276 Sqn ATC.

The books arrived and I’m about half way through, it’s a good read. It appears the first Rapide he brought G-AHLM was purchased from Marshalls of Cambridge just down the road from me and one of my former employers!

It also appears that the idea for the company came about while the author was working for the Plymouth Aero Club flying there Miles Gemini G-AKHW around. The author almost met his maker in this aircraft after a brake and switch failure at St Marys resulted in the aircraft going over the cliffs at the end of the runway, but not before the aircraft had run over it’s departing pilot! How many pilots have been runover but there own aircraft?

Having ended up upside down on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff I was surprised to find that the aircraft was returned to flight and is now in New Zealand with Aerotech for restoration. Does anybody now the current status of this aircraft or have any piccies of her during her life they might want to share with us / me?

    I just cant believe this.

I only met Steve a couple of times but you couldn’t wish to meet a nicer bloke. Geniune, warm, funny and level headed. The world is a worser place for his passing. My sincere condolences go out to Haydn, Julie and his family.

    Thanks for that Tony. 🙂

I have know placed an order for one of the copies on abebooks, as you say overpriced but when I sat and thought about it I probably spend more than that in the pub on a Saturday night and I think this will probably bring me more long term entertainment! Hopefully it will also give me some inspiration as I start my coach company – might even be able to put it down as a business expense. 😉

No honestly I show you no malice ( goes out back looking for gun… 😀 ). Once you’ve found something it takes away all the fun of looking for it!
