Don’t panic! It is (was) a Mk 3.
Phew! Those old ‘coke bottles’ were rusting on the production line!
Back to Canberra’s. If the RAF is finnishing with them in March next year is there any chance that they might keep one just for the display season and be able to find one that has enough hours / fatigue index left to show the crowds exactly what it can do? I’ve seen one display and it’s very, very impressive. I guess I already know the answer, but we can all dream cant we…
Fine cars Moggy, fine cars…… 😀 😀 😀
No other car looks as good from every angle.
Cheers for that Mal, I am still looking and have sent an e-mail. Hope no ones brought it while I’ve been on holiday ( and passing through Devon! ).
1997, that’s nothing. 🙂
I’m about to throw away a Cortina GT that’s been in the front garden since 1988.
😮 Not a Mk1 I hope! If it was and I had space I would be round like a shot! If it is and there’s anything worth saving on it I can dig out the number for a chap in Norwich who would probably take it of your hands.
I think historically is goes back to the fact that ‘change-over’ days for the tourists were Saturdays therefore if the displays were held on a Saturday the majority of tourists who were visiting the region would not be able to attend and that could have a significant effect on revenues for the various charities/funds that ultimately benefited from these displays
1 tourist ( me! ) did venture down on a Wednesday. Unfortunatly I didn’t know it was on until I heard about it on the radio while driving through, as it was about 5’ish I was to late. Could have gone down Tuesday night as well. 😡 Nevermind the dancing girls I’ve just stayed with for the last couple of nights made up for it!
Any news on the Sea Hawk? Hope everything is ok, they dont get much luck do they.
Lovely pictures Steve, thnaks for sharing. There seems to be a pattern forming here as I was unable to go at the last minute as well.
😮 Well done the fire boys. I hope this hasn’t caused to much damage and the work required isn’t going to be extensive or to costly.
Room for a new face? 🙂
2) What is the reg of the Icelandair DC-3? Neither of the two photos posted show it.
TF-NPK
Do you approve of the colour scheme then Albert?? 😉
Whats the story with the Iceland Air DC3 – do they still use it? It looks great. It was nice to see that Air Atlantique had arrived in force last night and both the flying Ansons were parked together. G-AMPY also looks superb. 🙂
I left at 1415 and nothing had flown and most things were tucked away in the hangers so it looks like tommorrow
DGH
Why not break with tradition and come in and say hello. Mind you don’t expect a conversation with anyone with a camera between 2pm and 5:30. 🙂
I probably will make the effort one year Tim but I think this year I will be drawn towards Bruntingthorpe on Sunday. 😎
I’ve posted some piccies from todays arrivals on another thread but must admit I’ve never been and probably never will despite living just down the road. I must admit that even though we had such things as a B17 and a B25 arriving today I only really got excited when the DC3 and Dragon Rapides arrived. Guess I’m just a little odd. I’d happily swap Duxford for Coventry or Kemble. I guess you always take whats on your doorstep for granted.
Before I make a comment on this thread I would just like to say that I’m not a pilot and I’ve never been to the PFA rally althought for the last few years I have wanted to.
1. If the national event is such a disaster how about having local events around the country on a casual basis. You could perhaps use a local flying clubs premisis and advertise locally that you are having an open day and that anybody who has ever wanted to fly but thought it was to expensive or exclusive etc should come along and have a chat. All you would need is a barbecue and a gathering of open minded and enthusiastic people who would be prepared to show people around their aircraft and talk about the wonders of getting airbourne. I’m sure this would tempt more people to consider the possibility of taking up flying and after all I thought that was the idea of the PFA.
2. I’ve never been a spotter but I hold them no grudges. Just because some of them are rude or non appreciative dont tar them all with the same brush – unless there a bit kinky and like it that way. 😉
3. It’s the strangest things that make people want to become more involved in GA. For most of my life I have thought about nothing other than classic jets in my aviation world then one day a few years ago I saw Clive Denny take of ACROSS the runway at a Duxford airshow in a Piper Cub due to the strong winds. That aircraft stole the show for me and now I find myself turning more and more towards classic GA aircraft and ones that you can get involved with. Perhaps more of the airshow going public could be tempted to get involved if oppurtunities were put on there doorstep, a bit of direct marketing.
4. I have often thought that should I ever be in the position that I could afford to learn to fly and own my own aircraft the Denny Kitfox would be a practical and relatively cheap one to operate. The thing is for the last few years I have seen umpteen Spitfires / Mustangs / Hunters etc, etc, but never a Kitfox. I know there’s loads out there but were? If the PFA had a presence at airshows perhaps I would have seen one by know, perhaps even had a chat with a pilot of one or even seen one fly. I’m not a stranger to airfields! At Kemble and Little Gransden the local flying school’s have a display on the field were you can get up close and personnal with there aircraft and chat to the instructors about flying, cant the PFA do that?
Just my 5 pence worth, hope it helps.
Where’d the pics go?
I can still see them. If there was any you liked I can PM you the full size version.
